ACtually, this is a ressurected topic from like 2 yrs ago, but most of the pics are fubared from the board move, so I figured maybe bring it alive again. It's the resonator at the bottom of the stock air box, serves as a water-catch-can for any water that makes it that far up (part #8)



Okay, so I see it's held on by 2 bolts......anybody removed it and wants to offer any advice on how to get those bolts free easily, w/o having to remove the front bumper, lol

 

I removed mine. You have to basically remove #10 to get to it. It is quite simple actually.

 

So what are you eliminating? Has this been dyno-proven to gain any power?

 

Thats some serious over engineering...

 

make sure when you remove it to cover up the hole in the bottom of the intake box...it creates a vaccuum effect with the stock box...i used a plastic plug and glued it into spot...i drove around without plugging it up and it created a hollow sound

the z tube has nothing to do with the lower resonator that is attached to the intake box...

 

I run a z-tube with the resonator. I initially removed it and plugged the hole (with a shampoo lid and silicone, I believe ) but didn't like the induction sound.

 

i used a cap from a pack of weed wacker blades...used e6000 to hold it in place...chicago x btw where did you pick up the parts for you intercooler project

 

I don't get what the purpose of the water-catch-can is? There's no need to retain the water that makes it in that far. I would have thought a simple drain hole is all that's needed.

 

About how far down is the bolt that holds #8 in place?

 

I haven't see the older thread, but after looking at this I'm not sure removing the resonator just to add a 1" diameter hole to the airbox is worth the effort.

 

removing the power duct had an awesome effect on the sound, so I don't think it can hurt to remove that gangly piece from below

 

i agree that there was a big difference in induction by removing the power duct , and that only took 30 seconds. this just looks like a lot more work

i take another look under the hood and see if I can find the bolt that needs to come out.

 

I looked yesterday and hence why i'm hesitating on it - to me, the only way I can see to get at it is if I remove the lower engine cover protector or take off the wheel and wheel-shroud. However, maybe if you do lift #10 straight up and out you can see/reach it.
