mrev+ w/stock intake

By 'new car', I just mean from sound to mid/top power it just feels like a new car. By 'new', I don't mean new as in off the lot, but just a different car.
yea after i posted i kinda realized when people say hks on here they mean exhaust. but i was thinking "intake" cause they make one. yea i knew you didn't mean new car of the lot. (actually you said "new beast"). but i wanted a clarification if you meant different sound or hp gains. that's great that you got good gains from your exhaust. i'm not ready to take that plunge yet.
GTRon - yea i think it would be best to rig a cone into the stock box, but i'm not that handy. so it pretty much looks like i have to shell out close to 300 bucks for the stillen and tube.

I have had the MREV+ with the stock intake. I then upgraded the stock intake to a z-tube and K&N filter and drove for about 500 miles. I then swapped out the K&N filter for an Amsoil filter and that is the setup I am currently using. There was no different between the Amsoil and K&N filter sound or performance wise, the only difference is that the Amsoil is much easier to maintain and clean. As far as performance goes with the stock intake setup vs. the z-tube/drop in filter, there is none that I could notice. It might have added 2 HP or so, but I did not feel much if any difference at all. I thought I might have, but im pretty sure it was just the placebo effect. Soundwise, however, the upgrade was WELL worth it. The car sounds like a monster above 4k rpm now, especially at WOT. The induction noise is so much better and the exhaust even sounds louder. I cant wait to get my headers and HF cats on! Bottom line, if I were you I would go with an upgraded drop in filter and the z-tube.
I took a sound clip of the setup after I installed it. This is me revving the car in the garage. You can hear the cool "TSSS" noise that the filter makes when it sucks in the air. http://www.f-trans.net/pub/ludafifty...r%20audio.aiff

thanx mike. i've been kinda following your mrev thread. I am considering the amsoil filter. But now that you're telling me ther's no gain with the mrev+, i don't know. Thanx for giving us the ino on the sound, but like i said in my original post, sound is just not that important to me. I just got my ipod installed an now will never have to hear the car again. j/k - i LOVE the exhaust noise, which is why i'm not gonna change the exhuast, but i am SATISFIED with the way the car sounds stock. I am unsatisfied with the cars acceleration.
alright well then instead of spending money on intake items maybe you should save up for HF cats or headers. The headers will give you a huge torque difference and about 15-20 hp (if you go with strup which is a good bang for the buck option). The headers can also only amplify the effects of the MREV+.
yea i've noticed most people do hf cats or headers. i am just taking baby steps for now, just enjoying the process. not ready for a big job like headers. I might do high flow cats at some point in the future. Also, looking at y-pipes. But for now, i just wanna try to do something relatively cheap and easy to install - intake, maybe a pulley. i dunno, or i might just chill out, see what kind of mods are coming down the pipeline.

The tube/drop-in combo offers good flow and also avoids the majority of the radiant heat that most other alternatives can't resist.
Any HP advantage, due to that location, is going to be more than offset by the added heat induction. You simply aren't going to see significant gains from a air-filter mod. But you can pick the option that best complements your other breathing mods. If you want max gains from intake mods, use a Z-tube and rig a cone filter into the stock airbox and make it as sealed as possible except for the OEM "Power Duct". Then insulate from airbox to throttle-body. Can't recall which memberr did all of the testing to figure this out.
