Dead Trunk

Went to the store yesterday. Luckily I just bought some cookies. When I tried my trunk opener, it wouldn't open! Release button, nada. Key fob, nada.

Took my frozen cookies down to the dealership this morning for a 'quick fix', but after a bit over an hour, I had to take the car unfinished since I had an appointment with my accountant. No loaners available until March 8th.

They have to track down the problem. Could be the BCM, or something funky with the wiring. So for the next 1 1/2 weeks, I've got to open the trunk via a strap attached to the manual trunk release through the back seat pass-through.

Haven't heard about anyone else having a problem with their trunk releases before, so I'm thinking this is unique?

Re: Dead Trunk

There is a switch that you might have touched. On the sedan its in the passenger footwell and on the coupe its in the glove box. Try that. It might work.

Re: Dead Trunk

Hi Gord, I just checked the Sedan ESM and in section BL it decribes a trunk lid switch similar to the one I have in the glove box of my Coupe, but it doesn't say where it is......
If it is in the passenger footwell as Rob_G35 suggests, it may have been inadvertantly switched off.
I don't remember one in my Sedan, but it rather sounds as if there is one.....

The other possibility is that the keyfob trunk button is faulty. Did you try the other keyfob's trunk release? And the outside trunk realease can be a little fiddly to push it in the right place.

If all that fails, perhaps the poor gal just got p'd off with that unrelenting cold you guys get out there.

Re: Dead Trunk

There is a trunklid switch in the glovebox of the sedan as well. It's a lock-out switch so ppl can't access the trunk without unlocking the glovebox first. Nope, that was the first thing they looked at. They thought that there might be a switch in the trunk like some Nissans that I might have inadvertently hit. Not on our cars. They looked at all the simple stuff first which was the reason they thought I'd be in and out quickly. They started measuring BCM out-put, etc. but I had to go. So they'll have to have it in for a day to do a thorough trouble shoot.

Oh well. My 2003 has an interior trunk release for now. It's just that it's a nylon strap running to the pass-through door in the back seat. Nice low-tech mod and very unique!

Maybe I should do an FAQ so others can mod their 2003s that don't have that electronic switch in the dash!

Re: Dead Trunk

Plus, that switch only disables the console trunk release button. It does not disable the keyfob. (Don't give the valet your keyfob if you want to keep them out of the trunk!)

Re: Dead Trunk

Gordon that is the sadest story I have ever herad, im serious. It's like..

"And my trunk wouldn't open and I had to go to the dealership with my frozen cookies and they couldn't help me."

It sounds like a poor joe with no luck and all he has is his cookies because his life sucks, man, makes me depressed. Thank god I'm seeing the girlfriend tonight otherwise this story would eat me all night.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: Dead Trunk

On my way to the dealership, I personally would have tossed my cookies.

I'll be here all of the week, be sure to tip your dealership.
