Question on design of tow hook? EDIT: Probem Solved

if there are any engineers/fabricators out there, I need your help.

i need to design/fabricate a tow hook piece that will work with my existing bumper.

here's a picture of the OEM tow hook location

my front bumper covers the OEM location. I basically need to drop the tow hook location down. Not sure how far, but let's say 4 inches to get to an opening in the front bumper.

i figure a simple design is best. want to avoid having to cut into the front bumper

here's my question:

1- what metal and how thick to ensure the piece doesn't bend when the car is actully being towed? since I imagine there will be a lot of stress on the metal.

2- can i get some contacts to where i would get a piece like this made?

3- do you have any better ideas?

thank you,

vinh

why not just cut off the tow hook and weld on the piece you've drawn up (without the top hole being drilled)?

i'd imagine drilling a hole and bolting the piece on would be much easier than getting a welder to come to my house or me bringing the car to them to weld.

I would have the adapter overlap the OE attachment and the "bumper" front. The force of a forward pull with the adapter is different than a straight pull from the OE location. As for material I would use similar material and thickness to the original as well. Unless you are looking to do "yanks" instead of a pull or drag I can't see it need ing to be heavy duty. I know that many race cars use 5/16" to 1/4" steel. Sorry i can't help anymore than that.

fawk...such a simple design, but yet so beautiful.

this just might work.

that hex bolt is obvious long enough to be secured down into the OEM tow hook area, right?

thanks steve. can't wait to put it on.

if this works, might be something you can market to all the Kenstyle owners.

might even work for those with the Kuruma Z.

can you tell i am excited to get this test fitted???

woohoo!!!!

bring on the replicas
