What do our seats weigh? And who has race seats?

OK, I know this question has been asked and answered. I KNOW it has. But I can't find it after searching. It's just too much info to sift through and I must've missed it somewhere. So I'm sucking it up and asking....

Anyway, I'm curious about how much our seats weigh? (04 coupe) And how difficult are they to take in and out? Some seats are four bolts that are easy to get to, and 1-2 plugs. How bad are ours? lol

The reason I ask: I have a set of Sparco Evo's at the house. They "belong" in my Prelude, but as long as it's just sitting there not being raced..... I thought, "hey, why not toss them in the G when I go to the track."

Not a fan of the color anymore especially combined with the gray, and they definitely aren't meant for daily driving:

But if I took out both seats I might save a reasonable amount of weight. If it's ENOUGH weight, I might go ahead and order some brackets and toss these in when I'm headed to the track.

So, anyone had any experience they want to share with me?

Search! Kidding -- I had this old thread bookmarked.

Anyone weighed the seats??

Post #9 says the driver's seat is 49 lbs and passenger seat is 42 lbs. No guarantees on the accuracy, but it sounds about right.

i guess the real question is, how much are you willing to pay for losing 91 lbs... and then adding whatever the sparco weighs, weight of the brackets, and loss of a lot of the seat functions.

you might be better served by losing the rear seats. I think that's a fairly easily removed item, and you wouldn't necessarily have to replace it with anything. You also gain a substantial amount of storage... although, you can't store anything when on the track (well, on most).

good luck anyway!

I already have the seats... and the seats combined with aluminum brackets don't weigh but probably close to 20 lbs. If that.

And the rear seats are just foam and leather. No real frame, airbag, or electric motors to make them heavy.

I guess the only question is just yank it out and see how much trouble it is. *shrug*

But between the spare tire, both seats (taking out the added weight of the new seat) I bet I could shave off somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 lb's. That's almost like losing 2/3 of a passenger.

Hrm, probably not worth it. LOL

Get the seats and drop the other parts.

I might give it a shot later this season. I just don't want to spend 45 minutes yanking seats out, to find it only gave me .05 in the 1/4. Haha

Screw it, I'd rather do a 50shot. Although, the seats would be nice for when I autox this Sunday. Anyone know who has some brackets in stock in the south?

After my passenger seat was stolen I decided to put racing seats in my car. I took out the stock drivers seat and that thing was heavy. Not sure on the exact weight. My sparcos probably weigh about half what the stock ones weigh. The sparcos hold so much better and to me feel so much more comfortable. I never used the power or heat on the stock seats anyways.

I guess the long and short of it is this:

I love to go fast. It's tempting to strip a little of this, and a little of that. But it's a long, slippery slope of never ending "well, just this one more piece."

And the next thing you know you end up with a dedicated race car that's gutted with a full cage................... and I already have one of those (oddly enough, for that exact same reason.)

Plus I've always been one of those guys that wants to know that what I run at the track is exactly how I would run on the street.... not that I would ever street race, you know, cause that's like... illegal and stuff. o_0

But I am interested in how to keep the SRS light from coming up if I do yank them for a track session or something.

There is an airbag harness that you can buy to keep the light from coming on, makes the computer think the airbag is still there. Or there's a DIY writeup that shows you can use a resistor from radio shack to do the same thing (that's what I did in my car).
