Windshield Replacement

Hi... I drive on the Northern California freeways that I swear are slowly being returned to the earth, one pothole at a time... And with the state being way beyond broke, they aren't gonna fix them anytime soon... My 06 G35 6MT has a little over 22,000 miles and the windshield looks like it's been through a war... A thousand little chips and three more major ones... My insurance person told me to go ahead and get it replaced some time ago but I want to first ask here if anyone knows whether there are any particular issues with replacing the G35 coupe windshield. Is it more or less a standard windshield replacement or are there any things that need special attention... How about any problems anyone has ever encountered with the rear view mirror??? Any other issues??? Any advice would be much appreciated... thanks... bob...

OEM glass is VERY expensive.

Don't slam your doors, don't get it wet, don't take the tape off to 72 hours.

Hey I do autoglass for a living and the only thing you need to address is what kind of Urethane they are using, Some urethane's need to be heated to a certain temp. in order to dry properly. Most urethane start to cure in the 1st hour and they fully dry anywhere from 48 to 72 hours.

The tape is just a security precaution so the W/S will not slide

We recommend leaving the tape on for 24hrs. we use 3M blue painters tape it is a low-tac tape that is safe up to 7 days.

We recommend not washing the vehicle for 48hrs. if it rains that is fine just no high pressure washing.

If you have any other questions just shoot me a PM....G/L

^ Dude your INS. would never pay $1200 for a W/S...The average person can go in a dealer and get a W/S for $300 to $350 and that's with out a Business discount and the install does not cost $900

Incorrect. The OEM glass (whatever it is made of) is VERY expensive. Anything ins the 300-350 range is NOT OEM.

^ I've purchased OEM W/S before from Inskip Infiniti and I paid well under $300. It is just a plain W/S the only attachment is the mirror button VS. a W/S for my sisters MB E500 with electronics that cost $850

and their is really no difference between OEM and after market, All automitive glass is made to the same D.O.T. standard.

Some glass is made to the standard, others go above and beyond.

If your window doesn't have a Lamisafe/Asahi logo on the lower left, (from inside the car), then it is not OEM.

Some aftermarket glass I've seen doesn't have it... sadly...

There's a lot of certifications that SHOULD be on the glass which isn't always...

Ins. Co. have a set rate that they pay according NAGS(National Auto Glass Specifications), NAGS sets a flat rate time for the install, flat rate price for the hourly wage and they set a flat rate price for the kit used during the install.

If your ins. paid $1,200 for a W/S install on your car than they would not make any money from your policy, Now take into account how many W/S they cover to be installed in a year...They would go out of business!

All W/S clearly state "lamisafe" or laminated on them usually under the manufactures name or logo their is also a P/N or a cross reference #
