How do I take APART my Tail lights ???

I know you can bake open the headlights on our cars, but I can't figure out how to open up the taillights. I've unscrewed everything and I cannot see any silicone holding it together.... I'm basically trying to paint my tails exactly the same way one would paint their headlights.

So are there hidden screws somewhere, or what ?? I tried baking them open but it didnt work, wouldnt budge at all....... anybody know anything about this ?

(in case anybody is wondering, I'm trying to open my tails so I can paint black the chrome bezel that's inside... this way it will give it a tinted look while the plastic on the outside will still retain it's nice glossy red color. I'm hoping it will look nicer than tail overlays, everyone has those I wanted to do something a bit different)

I can't find the thread but there is one on this forum where someone has done this. It looked good. I believe he had to cut open the tail lights along the seam because you can't bake them.

yes actually I had an exacto knife in my hand earlier today eyeing the seam... but I wanted to post here first and see if anybody knew any better...

horror stories as in ?? I've got a spare set of tails, so I plan on doing them first to get a grip on how to do it, then do my actual lights that are going on my car... so I think I'm covering my bases hopefully

Dremel and JB weld should do the trick. I dont think an exacto knife will do the job. Good luck!

yea, you will have to dremel the tail lights. i did it that for is300, and silicone to seal it. I dont think you should do it to the G, because our lens are red. you cant really tell the different unless you park next to another G. it not worth it unless you can seal the tail light with silicone really well. Silicone is really messy and can look bad if you dont do it right

well good luck with your project!

Dremel with a diamond cutting wheel to open it, I use a 5 minute epoxy from loctite to seal them back up.

^ thanks for the link, it looks just like I imagined....

just got home, I'm sitting here about to dremel away with the heavy duty cutters.... I was looking at the diamond cutter as well but got these instead.... I'll try it out on my spare set of tails, if it's not a smooth cut I'll go back to Home Depot get a diamond wheel...

thanks guys
