Re: Debadging

Well, I got the sticky stuff off. But I had to use my fingernails and a small piece of thin plastic. There are "scratches" all through out the areas where the lettering and emblem was. They are very "light" looking though. Can these just be cleaned up so they disappear or do I really screw up the clearcoat and paint?

If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got.

Re: Debadging

I got some 3M compound, 3M Swirl Remover and microfiber towels. Wow, do those towels work great! I got most of the scratches out. I few more passes with some elbow grease should get rid of all them. There is a paint chip and cracking where the G35 logo was. I did not do it though.

I love black cars but the are the ABSOLUTE WORST to take care of.

Re: Debadging

I debadged the "G35" emblem on my sedan using the hairdryer, dental floss, and WD-40 method. It worked perfectly and there is no hint the badge was ever there. I thought the G35 looked offset since there was nothing on the other side of the trunk to balance it. I left the Infiniti logo and word since, on the 2003 sedans, the letters are embedded into the trunk and, if you remove them, you still have INFINITI spelled out in indentations. I think it looks very clean.

I have to admit, I like the mystery of the totally debadged red coupe. The Infiniti symbol still is in the grill, so it's not a total mystery and, in my humble opinion, it makes the car seem more custom looking. I'd get a kick out of driving a great looking car that nobody could identify (without asking).

Of course, the best idea I read on this whole thread was to put magnets under the badges and have the ability to put them on and remove them at will -> just look out for badge thieves.

Re: Debadging

Damn dude, what the hell happened when you were debadging? Scratches and chips?!?! My debadging was flawless. I didn't bother with floss or anything. I used a two step method. I used a blow dryer on each letter/number for i minute. Grabbed opposite corners and it came right off, leaving the mounting tape behind. (seen here)

To get the tape off, I put the blow dryer on it for 15 seconds, grabbed on end, and it stretched / peeled right off in complete piece. All I needed to use was a single drop of goo gone rubbed in with my finger after I was done.

Re: Debadging

I like the clean look as well, but for the coupes, I would leave the Infiniti symbol and letters. The "G35" badge has to go on all coupes and sedans in my opnion. I took mine off.

It's still a G thang!!
