I know several years ago there was a DIY thread on recovering the coupe door inserts, how they're removed etc. You know I did a Search, several times using different words but found zero...Help! Want to start replacing charcoal inserts with dark blue leather...Gary

 

Hey, newbie.

Start by using the search bar at the top of the page, your question has already been answered before!

The door leather porous parts are held on by glue, and a little bit of foam. Get your strong fingers out. You DO NOT have to take off the door panel, and shouldn't.

The adhesive all comes off with glue gone and you may reapply the (F)leather later with some high quality 3M TAPE, not spray glue.

Thanks for finding this ^ for me, reading the whole thread they used 3M spray adhesive. That's where you spray both sides and wait 5 minutes to put both sides together.

I used Loctite spray adhesive, but it was a pain to not overspray. I would suggest a brush-on glue, gets the edges better too.

 

^ ooooooor you could just mask off the surrounding area to avoid overspray

 

haha I did, but that crappy painters tape didn't want to stick to the vinyl cause I used Armor All on it to keep it shiny, but the oily surface is a no go for tape then...
