Headlights-bad ballast or bulb?

Came home from work last night and the driver headlight color was purplish, way different than the passenger side. Can anyone throw some knowledge my way if you think it's a failing ballast or bulb?
06 coupe oem headlights

Driver side

Passenger side

Probably a failing lamp, swap it to the other side and see if the problem persists.

But it could be the ballast so just swap the bulbs and then see if follows the bulb.

If it does, replace both bulbs. If not, replace one ballast.

Not even going to bother swapping them. I think it's safe to say this one's toast 🔥

Lol yeah, scorched.

Usually when I see that kind of damage on the job it's from someone bare-handing the lamps. You're not supposed to TOUCH THEM because the oil on your fingers makes hot spots on the glass. Typically they come with a little piece of tissue paper wrapped around the lamp that you use to prevent touching it but if not then just use a clean paper towel, toilet paper, napkin, etc or just be super careful to not touch the glass with your skin.

If you DO touch the glass you can always wipe it down with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol to remove the oily fingerprint.

Replaced it with a 6000k bulb and loving it. Just waiting on 2 new fender liners to come in before I do the other headlight
