help headlights frosted stained need new ones due to lids

Hey Guys I Really Need Help,

I Had A Set Of Bats Eyelids On My Coupe. I Got Tired Of My Lids And Took Em Off. I Used All Proper Removal Steps. Now Basicly The Clue From The Lids Staind My Headlamp And When I Tried To Get It Off Nothing Helped Even Googone. The More I Scrubed The More I Ruined My Lamps. What Do I Do I Guess I Need New Headlights.
Does Anyone Know How I Could Just Replace The Front Lens Because Technicly Its Just The Clear Plastin On My Lights That Ruined Everything Else Is Perfect. Please Help And If Im ****ed Where Can Iget Headlights For A Good Price Not Including The Xenons Or The Wiring . Just The Plastic

Buff it with some mag/chrome pollish. It should be as good as new... or at least alot better.

The key with goo gone is after apraying it, wipe it down, get another rag or towel sparay more goo gone. This will help absorb the glue before it spreads. Repeat process until all residue is gone. Also, a squeegy will do the trick after applying goo gone.

You can just use high grit sandpaper to get rid of everything...then buff with plastic polish.

I went thru the same issue about a month or 2 ago...

I used that goo gone stuff and it did exactly as you described...

YOu have 3 choices...
1) Wet Sand: Use a very fine grit and wet sand it out, and polish the headlamp afterwards. It won't be like new, but it'll be smooth and look a hell of a lot better.

2) Buy a new headlamp of eBay. You cannot just buy the lens part. Basically, you're gonna have to follow the steps of the headlight retrofit. Use heat gun, screwdriver around and slowly/carefully remove the lens. (THIS IS A PITA!!!!)

3) Claim warranty or buy a new headlamp (~$800).

good luck...

Citrus based cleaners work best. The use of a squeegy really helped me get the residue off a friends headlamp.

If you haven’t already bought everything - here's another product suggestion: Meguire's Plastix... I use it on my lenses (pre and post Bat Overlays). Works well for cleaning, removing haze/cloudiness and removing fine scratches. As far as removing adhesive, 3M makes a spay product that works well (it might be the goo gone stuff you are referring to).

BTW, if you wet sand be sure to use REAL fine grit! Probably 2000 or higher. I would suggest trying to use adhesive remover and polish/cleaner like Plastix before sanding. In fact I’m not sure I would sand – but that’s just me.

Good luck.

Trust me, goo-gone can really be dangerous w/ any friction. I used it to remove the adhesive from my stock badges, w/ my bare fingers.. and w/out realizing, it rubbed about 1/16th of an inch (thick) of skin off my thumbtips... that was a painful lesson....

Lesson learned, don't use goo-gone on any plastics w/ any sort of friction. It WILL ruin plastic, amongst other things. You should have realized that goo-gone is just about the same as paint thinner, an abrasive.
