I hate these forums... I'm scared to go back to my car now and look above my ashtray to see if I got the poop stains...
Anyway, that's probably payback for all you '05-'06s for shoving it in our '03-'04s faces how much the interior has been improved... ha ha

On a side note, if it's caused by the heat from a bulb the dealer will be obligated to fix it, so no worries. Good luck everyone.

I'm interested in knowing what the problem is. If it's the ashtray lightbulb, I'm disconnecting mine ASAP, as it's never used. I'll open my ashtray to use the power outlet to charge my phone, but that's the only time it's used or open.

It is true that the light stays on in the ash tray area and the glove box area too. It might very well be possible it is the heat from the light causing poop stains. But then here is another problem. even if we do get it parts replaced by the dealer...the light is just going to cause more problems again?!?!

I doubt it is the light. On another note...

...in addition to smoking ruining your lungs...the free-radicals and innumerable chemicals in the smoke ruin your skin, your car's interior...oh, and it eats away at your electrical system's wiring's insulation. Don't believe me? Google it.

I just remembered the dealer said not to charge your phone in the ashtray outlet because it was only designed to charge up the cig lighter. Maybe you guys charged your phones in the ashtray outlet making it too hot?? Especially since you don't smoke this makes sense...

I know this is funny to you but smoking is disgusting and i would never have anyone smoke in my car...my father who smokes tried to light one up once in my car and i smaked it out of his mouth...so NO we don't smoke and the aluminum tarnishing is probably made of poor craftsmanship...we are talking about a cheap alum interior and not any cigarette smoke

LOL 'cheap' aluminum! It is what it is, A METAL, pure and simple. If you think aluminum rusts you need to go back to school. It CORRODES over a LONGGGG period of time when exposed to a moist environment...and corrosion is WHITE. Theres a reason why they use it instead of STEEL for interior trim. Steel trim (unless it is stainless) would begin to rust from coming in contact with the moisture and oils from your skin, not to mention the surrounding air.

Quality of the metal is not an issue here.

DO PEOPLE NOT READ THE RESPONSES THAT ARE BEING POSTED. WE ARE NOT SMOKERS!

I have been using my cig lighter to power my aftermarket navi system, because the cord into the center console is just a wee bit short. Heat, yes, possibly, because the other seams where the trim meets is not turning brown.
