Re: Matching fogs to HID color

you guys would probably hate my fogs since they are 8000k piaa plasma's. But i sure can see everything a lot better with the combo of our stock hids and the fogs...blends together well when driving...

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

Has anyone tried the 4200 degree bulbs from 3A? I noticed them at Pepboys when finding out that they out of the Silver Stars.

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

There has been no concensus, this what I have read so far, someone correct me.

So far I have read good returns on the Sylania Silverstars 4000k (They seem to take a few days to burn into their true color, start off a bit yellow)and the Mtek 4350K (some have noticed a hint of blue and are unhappy about that). The Piaa's are known to burn out quick, but are a good choice for the LED.

Socalted I believe is running Euro Type-R (4100k?), but so far I have had trouble finding them on the East Coast.

I am curious about the 3A Racing bulbs, they are 4200K and might be a good middle ground and are available at Pep Boys.

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

Here is one not to buy. My local guy was pushing the Eurolite's on me. Evene new their Super Plasma line which they advertise as 4100K where terrible. I gave them a week to see if they would burn in like the Silver Stars are known to do....horrible, I couldn't tell the difference with the stock bulbs. Ordering the MTEKs today.

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

Triiji, Shader7, CoolCatG, anybody else who have changed you High beams.

How far down the road can you see with your new high beams? Do you drive in a rural area where you need the high beams, or is this just a mod to change how your lights look to someone outside the car?

I changed to the 130w bulbs on my last car and actually LOST distance and switched back to the stock 65w bulbs. Standing outside the car the 130w bulbs "looked" brighter, but driving down the road, they just didn't shine as far down the road.

I work nights and drive home at midnight on a rural road with lots of deer. With the stock high beams I can see a deer in the road about 3/4 mile and a possum at more than 1/2 a mile. This is very good.

Can anybody with the new bulbs give an objective description on what the new bulbs did to "how far down the road" you can see?

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

I changed to SilverStars back in summer 2002. I found the stock lights didn't illuminate far enough down a dark highway. The first set of aftermarket bulbs I tried looked "whiter", but were actually worse than the stock bulbs for seeing down the road. That's when I went with the SilverStars. Much brighter and whiter than stock on high beam. Not sure about deer and possum distance though as I don't usually run across them in my neck of the woods.

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

The Mteks are actually pretty bright on high beams, although they are whiter you cannot see the beam as you would on the stock ones.

Re: Matching fogs to HID color

I have the Mtek's and I have to say the high beams do not illuminate back roads as well as the stock ones, it seems as if they light up the sky more than they do the road.
