Matching fogs to HID color
Matching fogs to HID color
I've read many threads, and much debate, about the foglamp upgrades. What I'm trying to understand is what color (degrees kelvin) do I need to match the stock HID's ? Looking at the pricing online, as you go up in Kelvin, so does cost. Also, some posts say that anything over 6000, while producing a bluer color which some find pleasing, actually reduces the available light. I'm interested in trying to match stock color, I hate the color difference when the fogs are on, but I don't want the fogs to be more blue than the HID's.
Can anyone confirm the stock HID color ? I heard 4300, but this sounds low.
Can anyone confirm what temperature aftermarket bulb they have installed matches the HID? I'm guessing a 4500-5000K bulb would look about right.
Finally what brand and online retailer do you like.
Thanks.

That's the best match I've seen so far. Anyone think they have better?

Thanks, I tried Piaa's and some others before I found these. At certain angles tho they do put off just a hint of blue which I like. Here are my clearance and side marker lights which are Hybrid hyper whites. They look good, and seem to have a good light output.

I found these sites.
http://www.import-store.com/bike_bulbs.htm
http://www.autospeedy.com/mtec_halogen_bulb.asp
http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/me...egory_Code=RB1
I just dont know which one is the right one, they are all 12v and say 55-65W.

I thought it was a 9003. Or is that an incorrect size? People were saying to get the Sylvania Silverstars in a 9003. They don't make Silverstars in H4. Are they interchangeable?

Re: Matching fogs to HID color
Hmm . . . I don't know if there is a cross-reference guide or not, most of the writing on my box is in Japanese so I can't really tell if it says 9003 compatible. I bet someone at your local auto parts store would know.
Anyway, I finished mine, and am pretty happy with it. Detailed pictures are below. I did notice that the H4 TR-504 Euro 4500K bulbs color match pretty well with the Xenons in the beam pattern on the wall, but looking at the fogs directly, shows a distinct blueish hue. I believe this is due to the tint on the bulb glass deriving its final color. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably try something in the 4350K range like above to avoid the hint of blue.
Anyway, I may post another pic or two after it gets dark to show the illumination with and without the whiter fogs.
Be well.
