Smoked Tails w/o Reddish Tint

I would like to smoke my taillights but I don't like the reddish tint that remains. Ideally I would like to find some clear housings and tint those; however, that raises another question. Are the taillight bulbs red or is it simply the red housing that gives them their color?

Look at the quick photochops I made for comparison (reddish tint, no reddish tint) and lemme know if anyone has any ideas on how to accomplish this.

If you guys had a clear outer lense and smoked it it would look somewhat like the FX clear tails smoked.

Here's what they look like before tinting the housings.

Wouldn't that just make it really dark without really getting rid of the red? Also how well would the bulbs be able to shine through that? Doesn't seem like it would be very visible.

My FX tails are smoked and the outlines painted black and visibility is better than overlays IMO..

As I look back on the work my lenses are terrible. The paint has cracked and the lenses look like crap...

Those look good. I was thinking of something along the lines of the fx clear smoked style rather than the full solid black. I may just end up painting em.

I agree that the clear smoke would look better but would be very hard to get. I would paint them full black and just leave the red holes.

A clear cover can always be made...I would need a high power vacuum to achieve this..but it wouldn't be that difficult.
