I had them on my '06 sedan for about a year... here's how they looked:

This is a bad picture. They look blue-ish, but they're very white.

Here's a day time shot. Please, don't mind the blue painter's tape. I was going on a roadtrip.
But... eventually rough roads made them either fall off or even crack.
If they fell off... fine... take apart the headlights, re-align 'em... put the headlights back together. That was a hassle and took a while.
When one cracked, I had to order a whole new kit and replace it. Same... taking apart my headlight and putting it back together.
Just this time I had to wait for the kit to arrive and drive around with a broken halo. That looked retarded.
If you do plan on getting halos, buy AT LEAST two kits. They're very fragile and you want a back-up kit.
Time and time again... problems arose with the halos and I grew tired of putting up with the hassle of fixing 'em.
Instead I removed the halos and decided to just paint my headlights black.
Here's how they look now:

I'm much happier with these headlights and I'm not looking back.

I knew some of the G35 halo kits were cheap, but they sound like more hassle than they're worth. And I think the blacked out housing looks better anyway. Hopefully I'm going to do mine this summer along with a black grill, like your setup. I think it'll look sharp on a DG.
Being a previous owner of halos... and if you were to ask me whether or not to get the halos... I would say, "No."
Looking back on the halos... it was a bad decision.
Although it was unique... I guess... I now feel like it's rice.
It belongs on BMWs. Whenever I see some Honda, Scion, or other car other than BMW with halos... I thought of that as rice.
So, I decided halos just weren't for me. Plus, the installation is very time consuming and I've wasted a LOT more money than I had intended to spend on this mod.
I had to spend more money to buy replacement kits for cracked halos and spend more time opening and re-sealing my headlights.
Too much of a headache.

I'd definitely say paint your headlights and grille. Makes the car look much more sporty and aggressive... yet still luxury.
Plus, painted headlights are just more reliable than halos. Paint won't fade or peel if done correctly.
Your biggest concern should just be condensation within the headlight housing. If you don't seal your headlight correctly, some moisture can get inside.

dang bro. I would not have the patience to do the tape--but I like your thinking. Would the hood paint get so hot that you would melt the tape onto the paint or cause a sticky mess. I know the painters tape is low tack but I'm just curious. How long to put on and how long to remove?
btw, thanks for making me glad I don't have halos.
Ive got Halos on my sedan and I lke them. The only problem Ive had is when the inverters went out. Ive had them about a year or so now and no probelms. If you buy cheap kits then they wont last so keepp that in mind.
i was just super bored:
Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make up a sound
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now
It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again
Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
The risk that I'm takin'
I'm never gonna shut you out

LED's are good but don't do well with the heat of headlights. CCFL are better but some have inverter issues. I run a relay and direct battery power to them with a trigger off the ignition wire so they don't flash with the parking lights. I've had halos on my car for ~3 years and still love them but I also have quad projectors so they don't look the same as normal G lights.

But, painter's tape will not leave any sticky residue from that kind of heat so long as you remove it in less than 7 days.
I haven't left the tape on for more than a few days, and I have had no problems with any adhesive residue.
Putting on the tape can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours... depending on how much you tape up and how neatly you tape it.
If you tape it up strategically, removal can take 5 minutes or less.
Tape it up randomly and moronically and it can take forever.
