relay in controller box

I have a 04 sedanX. My low beam light has been out for a long time now I have been diving with my hi beams. At first i thought, my bulds where out and i replaced them. I also checked all the fuses both in the driver side and in the engine bay. I belive the problem may be the relay in the controller box (box behind battery with relays and fuses). I wanted to know if these relays come out, or if the entire control box needs to be repalced. I hope the whole box does not need to be repalced since its about $500 to $650. If any body ahs any experiece with this or suggestions please let me know what i should do.

Can you hear the relays “click” when you turn the head lights on and off? With the battery compartment open and with the fuse box exposed, I can hear my headlight relays click on and off. I assume you checked all the fuses in the little box behind the battery? In my 2003.5 Sedan, that’s where all the headlight fuses seem to be. I didn’t try, but it looks like those relays can be pulled out.

what i did was, i check all fuses and fuse boxes. all ok. then checked the relay clicking in the fuse box behind the battery. it seemed ok to me. I asked a fellow sedan owner to let me hear his relay pulse for the headlight and it was much stronger than mine. I figured my relay was bad. I tried to pull the relay out gently and it did not come out, so i assumed it was part of the controller box. I am not an auto electrician, so i dont want to f...up anything. It doesn't make sence to me, to not make a fuse box with relays that come out. By the way thanks for commenting. It seems not to many people, have experience with this.

Does the sound of the relays for the working high beams sound as strong as the low beams?

You have the HID headlights right? Is it possible the ballasts have failed? Maybe time to get in there with a voltmeter.

you know i dont remember how the high beam relays sounded, but a few mons back i decide to do a HID upgrade to my low beams and high beams. Basically, i put new HID's bulds in the low beams. In the high beams i put new ballast, since they dont orignally come HID's. While testing i noticed my low beams did not work and they did not work before the HID upgrade job. I went as far as removing my headlights and connecting them to another power source and they worked. So the ballast for the low beam and high beam work fine, so do the bulbs. have you tried removeing a headlight relay? do they come out?

I don’t know if the replays can be removed or not. I didn’t try when I had the fuse/relay box open behind the battery, and looking at the service manual for my 2003, it’s not obvious.

The only experience I’ve had with this is when both my friend’s low beams went out and the dealer wanted $200 just to diagnose the problem – they assumed it was some kind of electrical problem. We checked the fuses, the fusible links and the relays (for a clicking noise). We finally pulled the bulbs and both of them were burned out. We replace them and it was as good as new.

If I were you, I would put a voltmeter to the ballasts and the fuses, just to make sure before trying to switch out the relays or the whole box.

goin to try this weekend and give it another shot at the ballast and high/low beam relays. I was thinking maybe I can run power from the high beam to the low beams. What do you think of that crazy idea?

That will probably burn out the high beam fuses resulting in no headlights.

So, the relay cannot be pulled out? it has to be the whole controller box?

I have HIDs on my coupe. My driver headlight works perfect. But all of a sudden yesterday my passenger went out. I thought it was my fuse and my fuses were blown but after changing the fuse and the HID ballast and testing the line for 12v, after connecting the HID system my fuse blows every time. Thoughts?????
