I got my headlights blacked out at a very reputable body shop. They were sanded, clearcoated, the whole 9 yards. Looks great but visibility is terrible at night. Any ideas for improving brightness without damaging the paint or undoing my new paint?

I have an '04 with stock HID's

Dumb idea.

No you can't fix it, enjoy your tickets.

What you can do, is get rid of the base clear and then bake your lights open and paint the inside of them.

I doubt you'll be getting any tickets for it... but that's the trade off if you like that kind thing, blacking out your lights is obviously going to lower you output.

It's tough for me to take this seriously, since this is your second post. I can't believe the thought "this might not be a good idea" never occurred during this process.

Here's a simple question I ask before I do any modifications "I wonder why no engineer at Nissan ever thought of this idea?" You may find that useful in the future, or you may not...that is your decision.

I guess one solution for you now that you can't see at night because you painted your headlights is to do something like this:

Best wishes.

I've never understood any mod that makes a vehicle less functional. Of course, that accounts for about 75% of most typical mods. And I have to agree with the others....is it a surprise that making your headlights less clear makes them less bright? Really?

This was an extremely dumb idea to darken your headlights, what did you think was going to happen?? Only solution is to replace them....

Sounds like bad idea... Just undo it...
Bad lights could mean an accident at night, I wouldn't keep them on just for the looks.

you guys know that there is a big possibility that he painted the inside gloss black and because its an 04 with non projector the lights depend on the chrome bezels to spread the light. Im pretty sure that if he painted it like you guys think he wouldnt be posting that because if he painted the outside lens gloss black, no light would be able to come out period.

What did you paint? In any case, nice job ricer. Why would you possibly want to make your car less safe to you and everyone on the road by painting your headlights so you can't see? Undo your mistake and get rid of it
