Exclamation Why does my HID light go out when warm outside?

Hey everyone!

My problem is that my HID right side goes out when it is about 50 degrees on up. It comes on for a about 5 mins on a cold start or even warm then start to flicker 2 times then completely goes out. I turn my lights off for a minute and then it comes back on again but eventually does the flicker twice and goes out. I keep doing the same thing just to see at night. When it's cold outside in winter temps of 49 or colder it stays on with no problem. Does anyone know if it's the bulb , ballast or something else? It is a 2005 stock ballast w/ 06/07 headlamps w/aftermarket HID bulbs. The lights haven't been touched in about 4 years since they were changed out.

Thanks!

From: Waltham Ma,
Sounds like the ballast is over heating? but I would try swapping a the drivers bulb over and see if it does the same thing. Then you'd know its the ballast and not the bulb.

The aftermarket HID bulbs on a 2005 stock ballast were put in 4years ago when everything was installed and were never touched ever since.

When HID bulbs die, they tend to just not fire rather than go out after a few minutes. I'd swap ballasts(or bulbs) and see if it does the same thing to the other bulb. My guess is the ballast is being dumb. Although, if the bulb does flicker, it could cause the ballast to shut down. If the ballast doesn't detect enough current draw, it shuts down until you cycle the lights again. Almost all digital ballasts are like that.

i think aftermarket bulbs are designed to last only 1-3 years.. if you had it for 4 years, I would say you've beaten the odds. Buy yourself a powerball today.
