Tail/Ill fuse blowing
Tail/Ill fuse blowing
Good morning,
My tail/ill fuse is blowing every time I turned my headlights on. I unplugged sidemarkers, headlights, tail lights, and the plug going to the illumination lamp inside the console where the shifter is. I pulled the fuse block and opened it up and didn't see obvious signs of arch damage on the circuit board or the connecting leads. So obviously I have a short to ground in a wire leading somewhere. There's no obvious exposed wires leading to any of my lights from the distance from the plugs to where it goes into the loom.
I've seen a few posts on separate forums of this issue from roughly a decade ago but none that helps me with my problem. I'm not sure if anyone has seen this recently and knows obvious areas to look before I start tearing the entire car apart!
Which I am fine with doing just preferred not to, also I am an electrician so we can talk intelligently here. Thanks.

BCM?, IPDM?
Are you the original owner of this vehicle?
Was this vehicle ever involved in a flood or had water damage?
I recall a previous poster that had frayed wires in the trunk area.

Gents,
The FSM does seem helpful, thank you for the link.
I am the 2nd owner, I’ve had it for about 4 years. & I did hydrolock the motor back in 2014, but that’s about as much water damage it has received.
I’ll be working all night but when I come home I’ll try things out and give you all an update. Thanks again.

Sorry for being so out of touch, I did find the issue and get it fixed. I had my entire engine tucked, with harnesses running through the wheel well. One of the harnesses came out of a clamp I had done and was sitting on the wheel well cover and getting wear/tear from the tire. Had to splice in about 8” on 14 wires. But got it fixed.

I found my issue... it was simple and I caused it. I found the short!!!!!! It was the cigarette lighter. I had to cut and splice (flux, solder, heat shrink) the connector on, the previous owner cut it off and used the ashtray for Gauge pods, or the Tein EDC controller. When I soldered the two wires the red/blue wire had a strand of copper piercing through the heatshrink and shorting on the ground wire. No damage.
