If you find the OEM hid is dim or went out, no need to change the expensive whole headlight, A custom bulb can make it perfect.
You can think about, if you ever meet these issue?
1. Replace factory HID headlight system, BUT they are incredibly expensive. then you’re looking at roughly $500 plus labor at the dealer for a replacement.
2. Replace a used OEM HID headlight system, BUT how would you identify how much life is left in it? Nobody knows it...
3. Purchase a new HID headlight kit from an aftermarket brand, BUT it is filled with low quality HID kits. Most offer horrible light beams patterns.
4. Replace aftermarket universal LED headlight bulbs, BUT it requires you to cut and splice wires. The potential for mistakes was high if you didn’t know what you were doing.
Here is the installation steps of the custom led bulbs. No wire cutting just plug and play. Notice, you need to take off the headlight firstly.
1. Take out the cover
2. Take apart the connector of the ballast
3. Take out the small clip
4. Take off the ballast and the wire.
5. take out the HID bulbs
6.1)put the custom LED bulbs into the housing
2) connect the wire of the led bulbs
7. Put the originail seal on the driver and fix it on the round hole with the 3 screws
8. Connect the plug together
9.This is the light performance of the led bulbs and HID.

I've had problems with my '04 coupe going through bulbs. Can you point me to a potential source of the issue? Ever heard of this problem before?
Thanks.

Sounds like a ground issue or a dying ballast. If you swap ballasts side to side does the problem follow the ballast, or the side of the car?
The number 1 reason for short life HID lamps is TOUCHING THEM during installation, you must not let the oil from your skin get on the lamp, if you accidentally do then clean it thoroughly with 99% isopropyl alcohol to remove the oil.
If you are not accidentally touching the lamps then clean the grounds thoroughly as Urban suggested, each ballast has a ground on the inside of the wheel well in the engine bay, passenger side is easy to access if you unbolt and lift up the coolant reservoir. Use a wire brush to clean the bolt threads, clamping side of the face, both sides of the wire lug. Apply a very light coat of electrical anti-oxidation grease and bolt everything back down.
