D2R vs D2S for 06 projector headlamp

I just ordered my 06 headlamps from Infinitispecialist on ebay and was thinking through the install process………

I understand that we can salvage our D2R bulbs to fit the projector application by scrapping off the coating that is on the bulb. I also understand that the coating is to help reflect light or not reflect light in the reflector application.

Question is: What if we don’t scrape off the black coating before installing the D2R bulb into the projector housing? Will the coating affect the light output significantly?

I don't remember exactly, but I saw pics on hidforum.com a while ago(it is hidplanet.com now). D2R in projector had very minor shadows compared to D2S. Try searching hidplanet.com

Yes, it will affect the light output significantly. If you don't want to scrape the black coating off the D2R, just get new D2S bulbs. You will be disappointed if you use the D2R as it is since the light intensity will suffer. My 06 housings and D2S bulbs are on the way...got 2 new D2S 85122 bulbs shipped from ebay for $69.

the ceramic coating cuts down your viewable light...(decresed lumens) of output from the HID bulb. Your projectors won't be as bright as they should be. Plus the notches on the D2R bulb do not line up with the D2S openings. You'll have to cut a slit for it to fit.

6969g35,

Just to confirm, are you saying that you do not actually have to "cut a slit" or "notch" the bulb?

You notch the BASE of the bulb. Not the actual bulb itself.
