Disconnect High mount brake light??

I have an added spoiler, so i also have the high mount brake light on the rear deck. How do i disconnect it?

I have the service manual and have looked at the instructions. This does NOT look easy according to the manual..."remove rear seats"?? "remove front seat belt floor shoulder anchor bolts"?? .....these are TWO of the the 10 steps to get to this assembly according to the manual.

Has anyone done this??

Re: Disconnect High mount brake light??

I added a spoiler on my sedan and left the third brake light in place. What I did do though, is disconnect the wire running to the light so it would not illuminate. Much easier than removing the entire assembly.

Re: Disconnect High mount brake light??

I think you can get to it by removing the upper lining in the trunk.. once that drops down, there should be a connecter in there where the 3rd brake light plugs into the wiring harness. Just unplug it and leave it.

Those funky black clips on the trunk lining aren't too hard to remove. Use a small flathead screwdriver and pop the center post out, then the whole clip should pull out. To reinstall, put the clip back in the hole, and push the center post in.

Your ride description states you have the aero package.
Doesn't that already include the spoiler?
Did you buy the Infiniti Spoiler? How much did it cost you.
My dealer wants $650 for the simple addition of the spoiler.
Way too much in my opinion.

Re: Disconnect High mount brake light??

i don't want to remove the light, just disable it.

chinee: HOW you disconnected this light is what i'm after.

ryoken: have you actually done this? I did pull several of those clips, there is also some type of tape holding that lining. On the coupe, the lining seems integrated into other interior body panels...once i realized it wasn't as easy as it looked i checked the manual and found what i posted above

cato: the dealer added the aero spoiler for me... cost was the std price of $550. If you want the spoiler you should have the dealer do it, the aftermarket ones suck.

Re: Disconnect High mount brake light??

I have pulled my liner off to take a peek at where the sat radio unit would go. I do have a sedan, though, not a coupe. There was some tape along the lip at the rear of the vehicle, but it came off fairly easily and stuck back in place nicely when it was time.

Just put a big strip of electrical tape over it on the outside of the windshield. 5 minute job at most.
