Is anyone putting together a DIY for the 06 projectors on 03-05 coupes? that would be great! everythingg35 has the housings for 600 a pair... they also offer the bulbs for 175 extra.... does all of this just plug and play??? thanks in advance??? Aside from removing the bumper to gain access to the light housings (there's a how to thread on that and it's easy to do) everything else is extremely simple. The bulbs will only go in one location in the housing, so you can't mix them up and it's a simple plug and play connector to connect it to the vehicle's electrical system.

I bought all my bulbs for less than $100 on Ebay, rallylights.com and autolumination.com. I bought OEM Philips 4300K D2S, Hella Yellowstar H1's and no name chrome plated city light and turn signal bulbs.

 

Have any of you used or heard of a D2C bulb? They are suppose to work in both a reflector & projector style headlamp. I have a vendor trying to sell me these bulbs. They come in 4300K all the way to 10000K & they are much more inexpensive than the PIAA & Phillips bulbs.

 

I'd go only with the recommended bulb for the application. S is for a shielded projector and R is for a reflector housing. Using one for the other can lead to light where you don't want it or not where you want it.

How much cheaper do you want to pay for the proper D2S bulbs? I got them off Ebay for $60 shipped and there are a few that are less than that. Go with the bulb for the inteded application.

 

Do the 06 Projectors have a blue/purple/white hue if you look at the projectors from a distance? I know the BMW, Benz, and Acura projectors do.

Those color hues you see on BMW's etc that change depending on the angle is caused mostly in part to the light bending around the shield in the projector revealing the different color spectrums inherant in light just before it is passed through the projection lens. All HID projectors will do this to some extent, some will be very weak about it while others are very strong. Adding 6k Ultinons is a good idea if you like blueish/purpleish colors.

 

No, no no. The '06 don't have a purple/blue band at the cut-off so they won't flicker or look purple from far away. They will look alot like how they do now.

Higher K temp just means less light.

 

but the 6000k ultinons will still have less output than stock projectors, but more light output than stock reflectors right?

I just did mine over the weekend, HUGE difference. I used Phillips 4300K with Slyvania H1 Silverstars, standard city & 7440. I couldn't believe how much difference it really made. The install was a bit time consuming, I about tore up my hand getting the passenger side off. That damn harness is in there tight! Props to the author of the DIY sticky, if I didn't have that it wouldn't have happened.
