Pic Request: OB Coupe w/ Stock 18" Wheels Painted Gunmetal

Hi all,

New G35 driver here. I'm thinking of getting my stock 18" wheels (currently black from PO) painted the same gunmetal as GT-R wheels (and how would I get the color code?). I plan to maybe get Volks eventually but I'd like to try this out for now.

Please post pics of other Gs with this setup or photoshoppers can play with mine or simply share your opinions. Thanks

Is it all the rage to just paint OEM wheels nowadays? I'm seeing a big influx of these posts as of lately.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Save up for some wheels and be done with it instead of wasting your money painting your OEM's.

Painted wheels, painted headlights, painted tailights, painted scion style roof, painted calipers and painted interiors. Just screams rice to me.

^I understand where you're coming from man but this rattle-canned black has got to go IMMEDIATELY (if you saw them up close you'd understand).

I absolutely cannot afford legit wheels right now so I either have to buy used OEM or, for half that cost, repaint mine tastefully and CORRECTLY.

Dont listen to the hate.

If you can't afford rims and you just want to have them looking nice until then, get them powdercoated.
You can get it done for prolly 250 bucks, and you might be able to get your money back once you sell them.

Color: It might be close to that color if you go with high gloss gunmetal, although IMO satin gunmetal would look better

^Thank you! I just bought the car and for that reason cannot afford new wheels but my current ones are an eyesore... you got the idea. I've always kept stock wheels stock color or bought quality JDM wheels on all past cars I've owned (mostly MR2s). Never had a need to repaint wheels til now.

I believe with powdercoating the pigment gets embedded directly into the metal? Is it possible to achieve a high gloss finish with that process? It costs $250 for a regular paint job here in SoCal but if I can get a powdercoat for that much I will!

very true but for a lot of people it's not even about "affording" new rims .. I make six figures and I powder coated my rims .. I personally don't see what's wrong with it but I can't see spending my cash on rims that will either bend from city streets or stolen by haters when in a lot of cases the OEM's look perfectly fine .. as with anything, it's personal taste but to me the best photo would be of your G with it's painted or powder coated OEMs sitting in the driveway of your 500K+ home .. they say rice, I say haters

I'd say a fairly LARGE amount of G owners paint their headlights .. a bunch more have their roofs painted black but I'll agree that the taillights, calipers and interiors are over the top

now now.. I dont see what painting OEM parts such as lights/wheels has to do with rice.
powder coated 19's (gunmetal)

Does that look rice to you?

Now with that being said, painted brake calipers on the other hand..

^Not rice to me! Do you have any close-ups of the powdercoat finish?

I've never been a fan of split-spokers no matter how far top-of-the-line those 19s are or the fact they're forged Rays. But your gunmetal treatment has me rethinking. It transforms the look from bland to aggressive yet still tasteful.

I don't get why people label it rice... stock wheels get a color change in the middle of a production run all the time by the OEM themselves! i.e. 1995 MR2 silver painted versus 1996 MR2 brushed aluminum or 2002 MR2 Spyder silver painted versus 2003 MR2 Spyder brushed aluminum. Owners on the GT-R forums say the 2010 wheel has a darker gunmetal finish than 2009s.

That PC is on point.

And your headlights look amazing, I don't think there is anything wrong with painted headlights at all.

What size spacers are you running on your Rays? 25mm all around? And do you plan on doing anything else? Maybe like a lip or something...
