no need for that. You'll get a little over spray on the barrel but its hardly noticeable.
that's one of the reasons why i painted my wheels, it covers up scratches very well so it should look much better.
haha he probably hates you
here's an update on how the wheels look since they were painted

final result

Thank god I somehow managed to come by this thread. I've been meaning to have my oem 19 rays powdercoated, or potentially buying some matte black 2.2.2 varrstoens. By doing what you did, I can now just plasti-dip my rays a matte black to give me an idea on how it'll look on my G. Plus I can use it as protection on my rims
That's looks friggin' sweet! Thanks for the post!
If you want a shiny black finish like you would have on a brand new black rim, would you guys advise plasti-dip with just a clear coat, or plasti-dip, black paint and clear coat? I would imagine since the plasti-dip is already black, you can skip the black paint.

plasti-dip has a very flat/matte finish. For the kind of black you're looking for you'll have to use plasti-dip, gloss black paint of your choice, and clear coat.

Lol good eye. Its great for lowered cars or working in low light conditions. I think I popped one of the leds though.
Decided to paint the wheels today since it was nice out. It came out great, considering its my first time painting wheels. I used Plasti-Dip as the primer, and then painted over that. The reason i used plast-dip was so i can peel it off whenever i get tired of the color.
Here's how it came out:
Before pics:

First Coat of plasti-dip

Second Coat of plati-dip

Third Coat of plasti-dip

First coat of bronze

Second coat of bronze + clear

Finally took some time out to take a few close ups.
NOTE: my crappy camera wasn't able to capture the metallic flakes that are visible in the sun, so it might look a bit dull in some pics.
