Finally got a little free time to work on the car yesterday. Decided to get the rear taken apart so I can start the mini tub. I'll be cutting out the existing wheel wells, repositioning the rear frame, and putting in wider wheel wells. There should be 3 additional inches of space when it's all finished, and a 315 should fit without issue.
Before:

After: Entire rear suspension and rear end removed. Hopefully I'll get to cutting soon.

this is the first G35 ive seen nicely modified for track work. looks great!especially love the photos at OC Infiniti, great car!
unusual to choose an auto as a base for motorsport (other than drag),was there a reason for this or just that you stuck with your original car?
also, very interested to hear your opinion on the Zeal coilovers! are you running any other suspension mods (bushings, adjustable arms, etc)? what spring rates?
i had Zeal functionXs on my TypeR a few years ago and was very happy with them,so they are on my shortlist for my V35 (along with JIC and Aragosta),as im looking to replace the current Bilsteins.

Thanks man, I appreciate the comments!
When I originally purchased the car I had no intention of racing it. I was driving 60+ miles a day in rush hour traffic, so I went with the auto out of laziness. I started to mod the car and things got out of control fast... now it's pretty much used for track only since it gets too much attention from the cops. So yeah, I pretty much stuck with the original car. As far as the performance of it, the auto seems to do alright on the track, especially with the addition of the paddle shifters, the high revving engine and the 4.08 gears.
In the near future I'm hoping to either do an LS engine/trans swap, or at the very least do a manual conversion. Since the car is strictly for track now, it'll be a little more fun with a 6 speed.
As for the Zeal's, I like them a lot. I have some bushings installed but not too much else as far as the arms go. I have front and rear arms sitting in my garage, but haven't found the time to install them yet. Once those are on I'll be getting it corner balanced and expect the car to handle much better. Even with the minor suspension mods I have though, the Zeal's really made the car handle great. The set I have are custom valved and sprung, the rates are 16kg/12kg. They are very uncomfortable on the street, especially after the addition of the cage.

First car I paid for myself was a 65 Mustang Zack. I miss that care so much and would love to get back into another one....some day
Can't wait to see all the updates. Seeing what you've done with the G to date, I'm sure it will be equally as impressive

Thanks Chris!
I drove the Mustang daily for probably 7 years. I always had a good time driving and modifying it, took it apart with the intention of restoring it, and then things came up and it sat for 12 years. I almost sold it a couple times, but I'm glad I kept it... everyone I talk to always regrets selling their first car.
Now I just need to find some time to work on it, my work schedule has been crazy the past few months.

Yeah, I was young and dumb lol. Actually, I sold it shortly after my 1st son was born. It was far from practical. I modded it as well....rebuilt the engine with my dad, lowered, rims etc.
So for now, I'll live vicariously through your build

Well when it gets done and on the track, I'll invite you out to throw it around the autocross course a few times. At this rate it might not be for a few years though
Hey Zack, really enjoyed watching all the changes you've made to your coupe and the track vids. Removing the shock towers and changing the front suspension on your Mustang is a major upgrade giving yourself more room for a big azz motor! Thanks for sharing all these pages with us, looking forward to the next....Gary

Cut out a section of the rear frame today and test fit the new frame section. This moves the frame in 2 inches. Once the frame is welded in I'll be cutting out the wheel well and replacing it with the widened one.
