I bought some pre-wired 12V waterproof LED strips off ebay for a little headlight LED re-wire project. Previously I had 3mm LED's running on my 06' projector clearance strip area. I wired them in a parallel circuit fashion but the darn things kept burning out on me. I'm going to see how these LED strips work instead.
Once I figure out the arrangement I'm looking for I'll bake the headlights and insert these strips. If all goes well total cost of project will be $26.00.

Here's a couple of mock-ups I tried over the headlight lens to get an idea of what I might want to do.

FYI: that little 3 inch LED strip there is perfect to slip into a side/bumper marker housing for a quick LED side marker. Total cost will be $10+ the marker housing you already have.

Pretty much ugly no matter what, in my opinion. Unless maybe you can make a circle around the projector housing thingy. The chrome eyeball thing, I mean (since you painted the rest black.) Even then, might look silly. Whatever you decide to do, hope you like it, and have fun~

sticking "waterproof" led strips to the outside of the headlight lens is a no no.

if you planned on putting them inside... that might be a different story

^ nah.. he's just placing them outside to see how they would look first. It's a good idea though, taking a look before you start taking the headlights apart.

From experience any strips under 50.00 a strip/ft and not name brand is not worth retrofitting since they will all burn out and lack in brightness .

Also, I'm kinda done with LED's in general. The exception IMO is replacing stock lights, with LED's. But again it's your ride...do what cha like


oh yea and dual ring tails...those LED's are Shank-approved

eeehh, never been too keen on the LED strips for the 06-07 headlights, just too much going on........just keep them clean but it's your G...have fun.

I wanna do it to my headlights too cause I have the non-projectors, and tired of the lame strip that doesn't light all the way up.

The main issue with strips is that they are just not that bright. It's quite a task to DIY this retro, and the payoff with these strips is not worth the effort IMHO. If you're going to bust open you headlights, you might as well do some quality work while you're in there. I speak from personal experience.

I would pass on those strips. I have over 20 5mm LEDs individually placed into my clearance strip area. These are pretty bright and hurt to look at them straight on. I never did trust the ebay strips. You may find yourself opening your headlights really soon to remove the burn out strip.
