andrewvk build thread
First, I LOVE this thread. Second, if your primary goal is drift, these drift fine. I drifted mine with no issues and basically stock for the past few years. brakes and tires are all I've needed to do (for obvious reason). Ultimately, I had planned to drop an LS3 in, but I've been wanted to do that for almost a decade (well before I even had the car) just because I love V8's and when the VQ first hit, nothing worked on them. My 350 that I had back in my single man days ended up TT'd from JWT and while it was fun, it never quite did it for me. Selling it now, but for what you're planning, you should have NO issues. Especially given it's got a bit more pep a bit less heft.
hey thanks!
yea ive had it at a few events and so far i like it. i need to do a differential asap, as well as adding a second set of rear calipers over this winter. right now, the build is going to try to be street car as well as drift car. so there is a lot im not wanting to give up yet. front part of interior, ac, stereo. if i can get my 3000lbs goal without removing all that stuff ill be happy.
i as well had thought about doing v8. ive done a few on miatas, 240sx, rx8. my favorite so far is alm 5.3. since they are much much cheaper than basic ls1. machine the cd009, and you are golden.
but ive done a bunch of them and i keep thinking i would like to top mount this car and cut the hood. in my head it looks good, and drives nice. but i havent gotten it all worked out yet. im going to hit the next few years NA before i add boost. ill for sure keep the thread updated!

so i got a little more chopped away at today.
pcv valve, spark plugs, jwt pop charger (i think i am tossing stock intake back in)
intake manifold spacer, topped off my coolant since the swap.
car is running like a top. i have roughyl 300 miles on it since the swap and my biggest complaint is there is minor steering shaft to long tube contact at certain vibration rpms. i cant remember what car they are from but i think they are g37 long tubes.
i also have to toss a replacement clutch line on, to remove that damn mid line dampener box.
plans are asap wideband, dyno tune, catch can, and slowly ease into building the rear subframe.
midway through spark plug swap.

all back together and took it for a little test drive.

hopefully more to come soon

raced a g37 coupe tonight with a vortech supercharger kit running 7lbs.
30 roll and a dig.
30 roll steadily lost to 1 car length and stayed to 100mph and i let off.
from a dig, i jumped ahead by a 1/4 car till about 25-30 and he pulled to roughly 1-1.5 car lengths to 100.
all in all i am very happy with where the car is right now. its not close to done by any means, but it was a good feeling keeping up with a 6500$ supercharger kit.
its motivated me to get more on the weight loss train, as well as some tuning in the future. unfortunately, i just purchased a tractor, im paying my truck off, and a new mower is coming this december. so the car will only receive little stuff for a while.

thanks! im getting excited with the progression of it. i thought i posted my weight numbers as of now but i dont see it anymore.
im sitting right at 3140lbs with 3/4 tank of gas.
i still have a lot i need to pull off, but it comes with adding additional parts which is more money.
sun roof, driveshaft are my two majors im wanting to do next. eventually will do trunk too.
a lot of other nit picky stuff. going to start working on the rear sound deadening tonight. so the goal shouldnt be hard to hit.
but once i hit the 3000lbs, im going to do a 4 point cage, so i will pop back up a little but for safety and rigidity of the chassis i wont complain.

i ran two 14.4 last night on the 1/4 mile. my 60' were both in the 2.5"
and my trap speed was 100 and 102.
temps were 90+ and the humidity was really bad. last night was the first time i had ever drag raced on a track. with some practice i believe i could easily hit 13s.
nothing to really report on the car, its running and driving perfectly. i need to modify the exhaust a little bit for sound. got an alignment yesterday and it feels more solid.
once i start modding again ill update.

an alm driveshaft is on the list. im doing a little research first to see how much ill need to shorten it with the 5.3 before i pull the trigger.
thanks, and im located in southwest IL about 25 minutes from STL

picked up an ls1 over the weekend.
its going to be a long build though, probably not until next winter.
planning on a hodge podge of swap parts.
cx racing mount kit, its the only one the lets you pick where you mount the motor. depending on that ill be able to use the sikky shifter/driveshaft.
ill be using probably long tubes. to my existing exhaust set up.
bouncing back and fourth with speartech, and efi holli for electronics.
also removing cluster, and running speedhut gauges.
ill update as i get more parts together, and actually start the swap.
end power goals for this build.
5.7, flat top pistons, ls6 cam. 241 heads, fast intake, long tubes, tune.
ill be around 400hp. and 350 tq.
this will also set me around 100lbs heavier than i am now.
with me currently sitting at 3140lbs. i still have some more weight to cut out, end goal with the swap ill be around 3100-3200.
not too bad for around 6k. also with the motor making so much power ill be getting better gas mileage too. mid 20s in town and low 30s are possible on the highway.
this will be the 4th, lsx base swap ive done. so im not expecting to run into any surprises. this platform is very simple and easy. ill update as i get it all together and running though.
