Smile New G Poster: Pics, and Wheel Questions

Sup gents, new poster to the forum but I've been a reader for a while. I've had my G for about a year now. I love the thing. It's an 05' and I bought it with a brand new laser red paint job, 10% tint, brand new kumho ecsta tires wrapped around the 6 spoke stock 17's, and the previous owner had also tinted the tails.

I haven't done too much to it so far based on the fact that I don't think it needs too much, and it's my daily. I love the stock bumpers and body lines on the car. I wanted to debadge the INFINITI text and the G35, and leave the infiniti logo (I always debadge my vehicles) but I talked to the folks at the paint shop where the previous owner had the paint done and they left the sticky residue on the car before they resprayed the trunk so they would know where to put back the badges. I didn't think it was worth respraying the trunk. Although I've thought about painting just the INFINITI and the G35 text laser red. I photoshopped close to what it would look like with laser red paint on those particular badges. I don't know if I'll make that move or not, give me your opinion on that one. I’ve got a front bumper tow cap cover comin in the mail along with a can of the factory red paint.

I've dipped the grill (which I think looks a lot better)

And I've added a Pioneer HU with DVD, Bluetooth and hands free.
https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X28...tp=20217&avf=Y

I really liked this stereo (because of all the options obviously) and the fact that you can fully customize the button color and background color. So I've got it looking as close to that factory yellow/orange dash color as possible. I should have taken interior pics but I'll have to add those later.

I opted for the metra dash kit with brushed aluminum finish to match the car. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120957...h.html?tp=3486

They had silver finish for $50 cheaper, but I figured if you're gonna spend the money and be in the car every day might as well do it right. It was worth it cause it looks awesome just like it was from the factory.

I added a little 10 inch infinity basslink and with all the bigger that car is it sounds awesome. https://www.sonicelectronix.com/lp/pla-powered-car-subwoofer-boxes/basslink?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_camp aign=PLA&affiliate=googpla&scid=scplp372&sc_intid= 372&adtype=pla&lsft=adtypela&gclid=CKnu7NOBotMCF Y64wAodyqsN2A

I ride around with the backseat down all the time unless I have more than 1 passenger.

QUESTION:
The next step I wanna take is what I have the question about. I like the stock 17's but I would prefer to switch to the 18's. The fact that the car came with brand new tires makes it hard to want to switch but I can probably sell what’s on there now for more considering the fact that the tires are virtually brand new and I’ve hardly driven this car since I’ve gotten it.

I like the stock 18", 7 spokes that they had on the G's from 2003/2004 optional 2005.

and I feel like those would be fairly easy to find.

But someone local is selling stock 18's off of a q45 wrapped in 45's. My current tires are 50's. So 18's with 45's I'm assuming would fit similar to 17's with 50's. I have never seen a g with q45 wheels on it, and maybe I’m just a newb and it won’t work... (if someone has a picture, please post). I feel like it'd be nice. But these are the pics of the wheels:

It'd definitely be different. The fact that there is a lug cover and that there’s a bigger emblem I kind of like. I can't afford to go any lower cause if you didn't notice from the pictures I have a WICKEDLY steep driveway and I already scrape my exhaust every time. But I feel like lateral fitment is soooo underrated as opposed to vertical fitment. So I already planned to get spacers. Based on reading around the forum I thought I would want to go with 20 or 25mm all the way around for that aggressive stance. I was planning to get these from Z1 motorsports: https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-pro...mm-p-5392.html

I really do feel like the q45 rims and tires would be sort of cool. You just don’t see that setup that often if ever, and the fact that it’s not common makes it intriguing. According to https://g35driver.com/forums/wheels-...s-offsets.html the 7 spoke 18’s that came on the g’s are 18x8 with a 30mm offset. Some ppl recommended going with 20mm or 25mm spacers all the way around with those. The q45’s are 18x8 with a 40mm offset. So, I would have to get 30mm spacers to get the stance I want. They’d be bolt on’s so I’m not so concerned about safety but I just don’t know if that’s the direction I’d want to go. Let me know if you have any input on this it’d be much appreciated. If all else fails I will have to find a pair of the 7 spoke 04 g wheels and tires around locally and just throw the spacers on em to seperate myself from the rest…

Thanks for reading and any input you may have, and check out the other projects I have goin on.

Nice ride, forgive me, but what is the exact tire size on the 18's?

They are 245/45/18's on the q45 wheels.

So prior to researching about what fitment I wanted to go with if I was to get new wheels, I was admittedly a bit of a newb on offset. I’ve taken the time to learn about it reading around in forums and watching youtube. I didn’t really want to spend all that money on aftermarket wheels and tires especially since I have to be at stock height anyway due to my driveway. (and KC winters get bad, so I couldn’t go much wider than 8’s, considering I'm keeping this setup year round)

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that I REALLY liked @sean_mcnair's setup with his oem 7 spoke 18’s, on 15mm spacers in the front, 20mm spacers in the back. It’s sits flush enough for me.

(stole a pic of his setup)

I saw a pic of someone with stock 18's 20mm’s all around and the front’s stuck out too far.

Since the G oem 18’s are 8" with a 30mm offset (F + R) and the 05’ oem Q45 wheels are 18” x 8” with a 40mm offset (F + R) I’m gonna try to buy those from the guy, and put 25mm spacers on the front and 30mm spacers on the back, and I should be sitting just like sean’s setup. I don’t know what kinda tires he’s running but the ones on the Q45 wheels are 45’s and I can’t imagine I’d have trouble scraping at stock height.

I would get 30mm spacers for the front and 35mm spacers for the back, but z1 motorsports doesn't sell 35mm spacers and it kinda worries me to go more than 30mm on spacers anyway. (The z1 motorsports ones have been track tested and they have a good reputation) If anyone knows of a 35mm spacer for g35's that they've had good experience with let me know, but for now I'm leaning towards getting the 25mm/30mm. I don't plan on tracking my car ever, just the occasional floor it to get on the freeway but I don't plan on doing any crazy driving. So if that makes a difference on the safety of getting 30mm/35mm's please advise.

I just hope to get the wheels and then I'll order the spacers and eventually post the pics. Hopefully the set up works out. Just gotta get the wheels first. Here's a link to the wheels for additional specs.

Btw, since I'm a newbie, how do you tag a user in a post? I want to give sean_mcnair credit for the useful picture. Thanks.

Welcome to G35 Driver! Love your red coupe! Did you notice you're missing the tow hook cover in your front bumper? You can order them from ebay, you'll just need to have it painted! Debadging...should be easy and the residue should come off with Googone or WD40 unless they were applied with super glue. Those 18" wheels will look good, you should be able to keep the factory tire size without issues! Spacers, I'm not a fan since they put pressure on the outside of the wheel bearings!
Good Luck, again welcome and enjoy the ride...Gary

Ya, I actually mentioned in my initial post I was getting the tow cover and a can of the factory color paint in the mail (already ordered). I know my initial post was kind of a novel, so easy to miss. I've actually used goo gone and had a lot of luck in the past as far as getting badge residue off, but the trunk was resprayed without removing the residue so the painters would know where to put back the badges. Instead of removing all the residue while prepping and measuring where to put back the badges. In other words it was kind of a cheap paint job and they didn't do it the way I would have wanted but it was before I owned the car so cant do much about it now. Thanks for the props on the car! It should look good when the 18's are on and then I'll take some better pictures.

So I got the wheels and tires. For a steal of a deal btw... So much so that I'm considering keeping the stock 17's in case I need another pair for any reason. I know if I do decide to sell them I will make more on them than what I spent on the 18's.

And.... I convinced myself to get 30mm/35mm. Rather than getting 25mm/30mm's. Accounting for the 10mm difference in offset in the q45 wheels as opposed to the G's stock 18's, I'll be sitting just like JJSOLON old set up with 20mm/25mm:

Name: _oem18sW_20mmfrt25mmRear_zpsgjf5yjt3.jpg
Views: 589
Size: 73.0 KB

instead of like sean_mcnair's set up with the 15mm/20mm's:

Name: _oem18sW_15mmfrt20mmRear_zpsdgesgnoh.jpg
Views: 634
Size: 160.1 KB

I decided the "15mm/20mm look" just wasn't flush enough for me. I needed to go 5mm more all the way around.

I haven't pulled the trigger on spacers yet.... I've been debating between getting either,
1. http://www.frsport.com/V2-Hubcentric...FQKsaQodGF8JEA
http://www.frsport.com/V2-Hubcentric...FQEOaQodaLUKdQ

or 2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/30MM-Silver-...38.m2548.l4275
http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-Hubcent...FWGDUq&vxp=mtr

can anybody tell me why I'd spend $200 more on the Ichiba's rather than the precision european's? I did a little bit of research on the precision european's and people on the forum have said that they were just fine. sumptimwong in particular. His thread: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...g35-sedan.html
They are Hub Centric, CNC Lathed, with 1.25" Nut Thread Size. I don't see the issue with gettin those. But I would appreciate any input you guys may have. Thanks.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Do not, I repeat do not buy anything from Ichiba. Just search the forum for Ichiba failures and you'll find countless threads. I have personally had 3 different Ichiba products fail on me so yes, I'm a little biased.

UPDATE: G35 Coupe w/ spacers and Q45 18" Wheels

Got the wheels, tires, and spacers on. Sitting pretty flush. Next step bake the headlights and black out headlight bezels. I really wish I didn't have such a steep driveway because I could probably afford to be an inch lower.

Oh ya I've done my research. This looks awesome but I think I wanna do silver instead of red for the clearance strip. Still deciding though. Silver would match my wheels and it'd be more of an oem look which is what I'm going for.
