I used the rustoleum home depot paint and clear, held up nicely for a few thousand miles. A few rock chips were beginning to show but nothing major but I eventually bought this special paint from my paint shop where the grill is going to be nighthawk black pearl and so is my roof. I hope it'll withstand a beating lol.

As of my grill right now, I kicked it dragged it around dropped it during my k2 w/ oem grill retrofit. It can take a pretty good beating but once you drag it against the ground then obviously the paint started to come off on me lol.

 

Bringing back an old thread..... If i used the flat black paint and i put a coat of Helmsman spar varnish (the same as used to keep the headlights looking new) on it will it last longer you think? or will it make it glossy? Which is the complete opposite of the color I'm going for.

If you aren't using Plasti-Dip, then you have missed the boat. I did my grille almost 2 years ago and there isn't any flaws yet....

I think you will be pleased with the overall results and the durability. Just apply 2-3 coats and you should be set...

 

I used duplicolor, 3 coats of base and clear, I get paint chips, but I just use touch up paint and it looks fine.

 

I did mine today, took my time and sprayed it like 5 times.

I will take more pictures on the car tomorrow and will post.

hey everyone i wanted to paint my grill with some plastidip and wondered if i needed to sand my grill.

as you can see on my image my grill is a bit craked and looks like the chrome is chipping?

any suggestions? is a new gril necessary?

If you have chips, etc, plastidip won't fill those voids so you're going to want to sand it down to smooth out and flatten the rough spots, then add primer and resand if needed.
