I think you've inspired me to try this on my winter wheels. Couple of questions for you.
-On your initial sand with 250 grit, did you take it down to the primer, or just rough it up enough that the paint / primer would stick? How did you clean them before you started?
-What was the reason for sanding after the clear coat?
-Did you paint the wheels with the tires mounted and just tape them off?
-Did you paint the inside of the wheels at all, or tape those off in some way? Wondering if you got any overspray or how you handled that.
Thanks~!

For initial sanding, basically you want to remove the clear coat, it you sand a bit too much and take off a bit of the paint, its ok.. should look something like this.
Yea i just taped off the tires as seen in pic.
Yes i painted the inside of the wheel, but only with primer, and the base Black coat. you probably also want to paint around the hub area as you will be able to see that with the wheel mounted.
Take your time and dont coat it on too thick on a single pass. If you happen to get overspray or drips, wait 10 mins until the rest of the rim is fairly dry, and take a Q-tip, and carefully press down on the drip.
the wet sand on the clear coat is for imperfections or overspray.
Good luck, and take your time. good prepwork is what is going to make the diffrence.
