I had mine cut out and pipes welded there instead since I was about to go onto my 3rd y pipe. It was so bad I had leaks and nasty rasp. Now, no more problems. Cheap fix

So your welds have held up good then Levon? I'm only on my second y-pipe but if I start having to change them up often I may go that route.

i was thinking of having the cats shortened up so that the while pipe sits higher. or maybe having a muffler shop weld little skid plates over the flex pipes

Yep, even when I was super low with the 19s, no issues with the welds.
