Ok, so here's a little update on what I did to the car today:

I've been running the stock intake tube in a short-ram (filter right on the MAF lol) while my car was in the shop, so that I could have the long-tube CAI painted.

So I was installing it back into the car today, and ran into a bit of a problem... the filter sits really low and forward in the bumper, which wasn't too bad with the regular bumper, but the Hikkatadori Nismo replica is MUCH more open... so I essentially had a filter just hangin right out in the open... right there for rain and whatever else to get into

Here's what I mean:

So, with some aluminum I had on hand, and some basic tools, I custom fabricated a rain guard

I think it turned out quite nice

Here's some pics of the process and the end result

Now I just need to get the ducts painted and installed.

Looks really good, how does the rain guard affect the supply of air to the CAI?

Not much. There's plenty of gaps around/under/behind/etc for it to get fresh air.
Mainly just don't want it raining right into it.
I threw a SES light in really heavy rain a couple times before (System too lean) This it just meant to keep that from happening.

I don't drive through puddles. If that was going to happen, it already would have when I had this on my car before.
I still may consider adding a check valve just in case.

IKR! Yeah, I had some problems with it throwing a service engine light in heavy rain when I had it on the car before... so far no problems since the rain guard.
I just like the way it sounds sooo much better than a short ram.
