All right, didn't get a lot done today because i was needed in the shop to finish a car so instead of working on the g i ended up working on some idiotic porsche boxster... Anyways back to the subject.

I learned the hard way that the 06 front bumper is not compatible with a 04 g35 sedan front so my grill doesn't fit, the part where the bumper meets the hood it's wider so the line looks horrible and the 06 bumper has some more pronounced curves where the grill meets the hood so... I got two options:

A. I change the fenders, hood and headlights to accommodate the 06 bumper.

B. I wing it... modify the bumper to accept the 04 grill, modify the corners where the bumper meets the 04 hood to make it seem more natural flowing, modify/mold the hood corners where it meets the bumper so the lines will close more and will flow with the 06 bumper...

I choose B.

So nice little challenge I got myself into just because I don't like the 04 front bumper (no offense to those who like it) so I'll be posting a little how to in the next week so if anyone is interested in this or is just curious if it's possible or how would it look stay tuned.

Little side note, ppl have been asking me about the color in gonna go with, here's what I have in mind.

I'm curious what you did to make the newer bumper fit. I really hate the early one.

Hey, I second taking off those door bumpers! I don't know why some Gs came with them and some didn't. I don't know what distinguished one from another. It just seems like they put them on some and left them off others. Looks so much cleaner without those damn mouldings tho.

BTW, keep it up! We're all still watching even if we don't comment. Believe me, this kind of stuff is way better than all the other threads on this forum where everyone just asks about which I exhaust or wheels they should get. Great job!

Honestly, nothing yet. The bumper mounts up to all the stock holes but there's 2 holes missing on the underside of the fender that I have to drill them out and screw it into place.

The real challenge is the modifying it to accept the 04 grill and the part where the 06 bumper (hard to explain but the part around the grill sits lower and it's bigger plus it's got some lines that don't match the 04 hood) meets the hood around the grill. 06 hoods are somewhat different, not a lot but enough to cause fitting issues.

This is not a clear pict and I'll take more tomorrow when I get to work but here's the fitting issue.

I'll do a step by step so if anyone wants to try this there's at least some guidance/ideas on how to do it.

Ps,

Sorry about the pict I just zoomed in my phone and uploaded it... Better Picts tomorrow.

Yup, really hate those rubber seals!! I'm gonna weld every single one of them holes and pretend like they were never there 😁😁

Also thanks a lot for the encouragement it's really refreshing because I thought that this was not interesting for you guys... My goal was/is to do step by step reconstruction of my g and along the way if anybody have any questions or anything that you might need help doing I'm here to answer or at least offer suggestions... I'm by no mean an expert and honestly I'm self taught so no bragging rights with certificates or diplomas but I get the job done and at least it comes out decent.

Thanks again and hope to be of assistance in a near future. 😁

Ok so here I go for tonight's update.

As you may know the 04 and 06 grill are different I mean the 06 is taller... Here's what I mean.

04 grill

06 grill

See the difference?? Also headlights are a bit different too but I can get away with that and also I'll change them later on for 06 headlights anyways...

This is what the car looked like 2 days ago

And zoomed in the headlight difference.

As you can see I can pretty much get away with the headlights as it looks ok and there's not a huge gap, actually is almost no gap at all.

Now to modify the bumper. Here's what you need to cut.

And my little one runnig in the background.

See the difference in the clip placement.

Size: 74.6 KB

And now let's cut!
Name: 4E0C0EC8-3C6C-4CC6-BB90-3F4210715C28.jpg
Views: 103
Size: 73.0 KB

I tried leaving the center lip that holds the grill hoping that it would work.

Name: 3E517C2A-B3DB-46A5-BFAD-4757B946B0C0.jpg

But it didn't. 😑😑😑

So I cut it.

Also the clips on the side hold the grill just fine but you need to trim the plastic before the clips so te grill will go all the way back.

And voila...

Partially done.

All of that space between the bumper and the grill is the difference in size from the 06 grill so I came up with a clever idea to close it.

You push it down and it closes but it arches the grill in a way that I believe will look weird in the car but what I came up with is that if I take my heat gun and bend the bottom lip of the bumper upwards it will close the gap a bit and then I would push the grill down to close the rest of the gap.

I still need to screw it down and to heat it up a bit more but I'll do that tomorrow or some other time because I'm somewhat tired.

Hope you guys liked the update and also hope that you can find it usefu, tomorrow I'll try to mount it on the car and see if any new problems show up and well... Deal with them.

As usual I'll keep you guys updated and if I don't write before New Years happy nre year for everyone!!
