Ive only looked through the opening on the passenger side. There's a plastic bucket where the fuel strainer and level gauge sit. I tried removing as much fuel as I could from both sides. The hardest part for the fuel was getting the 2 new lines routed down and to the new FPR.
Decided to fire it up today just to make sure it started. I built oil pressure up with the coil packs unplugged, plugged them back in and it started the very first try. Very impressed with the Wiring Specialties harness thus far.
Hopefully this week I can get the radiator support trimmed and cut to house the new radiator. I still need to drop the rear subframe and get all those bushings changed. Some other little odds and ends still need to be ordered. Probably gonna get a set of 18" Weds SA-20R's with some snow tires. Looking to run a 265/40/18 on the rear. More to come...
Didn't get anything done this week. Too busy with other stuff. My winter tires came in. 265/40/18 & 235/45/18 Pirelli's. Just need to get the WEDS ordered.
Not a whole lot of new stuff happening. I should be able to get a whole day of work in tomorrow. Today I got the clutch bled, transmission filled with 4 quarts of Mobil 1 syn ATF, and I started to fit the SPAL 16" fan to the radiator.
Watching the startup video, it looks like my harmonic balancer has a small wobble to it. Doing some research, it looks like the factory LS1 balancers are known to fall apart and wobble. So I ordered a 10% ATI underdrive.
As much as I would love to have Brembos, I can't justify the cost of them at the moment. Plus this car will not be tracked so needing brakes to stop me over and over again from high speeds without fading, just aren't needed. I ordered the PowerStop K23 front and rear complete set including calipers.
Debating on biting the bullet and ordering a MIG welder to try and fab up an exhaust. I think in the end it would cost just as much to have a shop do it for me as it would for me to order a new welder and give it a shot.
Been a while since an update. Not a whole lot of progress since my last post. Been busy with holiday stuff and vacation. Anyways, I've been fighting with the subframe bolts. They are nice and rusty and I am trying my best not to break one of the studs coming down from the frame. I've been soaking in PB blaster every other day for the past month and only using an impact on them. So far I've gotten 2 off with no issues, they just back off extremely slow.
I ordered some 18x9.5 +38 & 18x8.5+35 WedsSport SA20R's to go with my winter tire setup.
Should be able to get a bunch of work done in December since my work and school load will be very light.
Got the fan mounted to the radiator and started trimming the radiator support to accept the Griffin radiator. New shiny stuff Finally got the 4 nuts loose without breaking anything. Subframe on the way down Ready for poly differential and subframe bushings. Gonna change the axle seals and the cover gasket while it's out.
I wanted to go Brembos but they were double the cost just for calipers and they most likely would have had high miles. I got new calipers, rotors, and pads for half the price.
The Brembos do look sweet and I'm sure they perform well but maybe it's something I can do in a few years when these start to wear out.
Yeah my garage is a mess. I don't even think I can use the rack at the moment with all the crap around it. *Sigh* one day this car will be done and I can have my garage back.
The 18x8's came in. Gotta get some new TPMS sensors then have the winter tires put on
Got the core support trimmed enough to fit the radiator. It's a rough fit for now. I'll finish up with some better Dremel work to smooth out the sharp edges. I think I have a good idea on how to get it mounted permanently
Not a whole lot of clearance but everything fits without rubbing. I may try switching to CTS accessories in the future for extra room. The bottom hose should be fun and try to match up.
