G57 Sedan Build Thread
Got the trans down to TICK Performance. They tore it apart and have found $1900 in damage and that's only covering the parts. After the rebuild it's gonna be pretty close to a brand new T56. Hopefully they can get it shipped out this week so maybe next weekend I can put it back together and drive it more than ten feet down my driveway.

Owning a T56 in my Goat I'm curious what Tick found wrong in your tranny and what they think caused it. Tick does quality work and makes some incredible parts, I have a remote speed bleeder from them which is a godsend. Bleeding the clutch on the GTO is a nightmare as is.
Damaged engagement teeth on the following gears and synchronizers - 5/6 synchro, 5th drive gear (that's an expensive one), 2nd speed gear, 1/2 synchro, 1st speed gear (also expensive), and the reverse gear. All of the bearings were showing bad wear. The blocker rings were also broken and badly worn, which they believe probably lead to all of the other problems.
According to TICK, it was possibly the worn blocker rings. I'm not sure how those wear out exactly. Maybe the guy I bought the trans from really had no idea that he had a junker trans or maybe he knew it all along. I dunno???? Sucks to be out almost $6K for the transmission alone. Looking at the glass half full, it should last a long time now.
Looks like it will be delivered tomorrow to the shipping dock. I think I can go pick it up Friday so this weekend I may be putting her all back together.

Not a whole lot has happened since. I've got the transmission back from TICK but it's sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. Been a bit swamped with school. Just picked up a 2015 SHO, so probably gonna get rid of the G once she's up and driving good. I'm gonna try and get some work done this weekend.
I loved the power but hated the handling of the new SHO, plus I'm really not a fan of Ford's cockpit layout but that's just a preference thing. They do appear to be really solidly built vehicles though without much in the way of actual problems and the price tag is amazing on them.

Thanks for the update. When I bought the GTO 3 years ago I was down to it or an SHO. They are an amazing car but I decided the GTO was the one for me, I'd been wanting one for a long time. You should enjoy the SHO a lot.
I couldn't bring myself to sell the G. Way too many hours invested and it would break my heart to sell her. I'm pretty sure the SHO was an impulse buy since the G was taking so long to finish. The G57 is nearly complete, in fact i drove her down the street last weekend. I really need to get an exhaust of some sort built. Open headers attracts a lot of attention from the neighborhood people.
New update is the SHO is going up for sale so I can get an older F250 Powerstroke to daily and the G will be my weekend warrior/racecar. I'll try and get some videos and or pictures up soon.

Deets on the SHO? I'm really excited for you to hear the G is drivable at least for short distances. Any rough guesses on HP?
LMS intake, catted DPs, thermostat, 3 bar MAP, 93 tune, MSD coils, and ALKY 100% methanol injection. Never had it dyno'd, but other SHOs with similar mods are about 410whp and 460wtq.

Man that's awesome, thanks. When I bought my GTO 3 years ago I was down to a Goat or an SHO. Then I found my Spice Red Metallic with the Tremec T56 manual and only 27K miles for a damn good price and that made my decision for me. Love it more today than when I bought and it's 99% stock. I decided to not go down the rabbit hole when I bought it since I went waaaaaaay down with the G. Some days it's hard knowing heads, cam, intake, tune and exhaust could add an easy 100 HP but she's fast as is. Who knows what the future might bring.....
