This guy has done a lot of z's and quite a few g's. I've heard nothing but great things about his work and am supposed to get my windows done there soon.

I asked him a few questions

Does he use one large piece or two pieces for the back window? One large piece

Does he use vinyl over the dot matrix or tint it as well? Tints the dot matrix.

The film is under warranty, but what about labor? 100% stands by his work and will redo any work for free if the problem is due to an installation issue.

Based on those 3 answers (all the answers I wanted), plus other recommendations I've had I am going to him.

I'll let you know how it turns out, but you can see other pictures of his work on 350z's at the website above (chicagoz.com).

Re: Tinted Windows

Nate,

Nice find! I work in Mundelein and I'm going there! I've heard of inner-city (Chicago) shops doing tints for around $180.00. Motorworks wants $380.00 for all but windshield. Another Schaumburg shop wants $280.00 for all the way around but this is like Chicago pricing in the suburbs and in the same city where I work. I'll be dropping my car off at lunch sometime real soon! Calling Moday to see what their schedule is like!

Thansk a ton for the tip. I can't believe how much money I'll be saving!

Re: Tinted Windows

Just got them done yesterday and it turned out great. It was a little blurry yesterday, but everything has cleaned up today. He said let it cure for a week and if there are any problems after that he will redo anything for free.

I got 35% all the way around, I will take pictures if you want them (after the week is over though).

Really nice guys, I will go to them again in the future. He said if I get a ticket for having the fronts he'll just write me up a ticket saying that he removed them (so I'll get out of the ticket) & that if I actually want them removed it's $10 a window.

He does do clear bra and he even tints taillights with tinted clear bra. They were asking about bat's overlays that I had on. I screwed them up more than I know they would, so I think I may order another set and have Tint Works put them on for me.

FYI - when you get close to his shop you'll be on Tower road and the road curves, don't follow the curve, just go straight into the small parking lot for more industrial buildings and he's in there. Took me a minute to find it because it's an industrial section.

Re: Tinted Windows

Just got mine done at "The tint Place" in Mundelein this morning and have too say I'm quite impressed. The owner Mike was a nice bloke, don't be put off by the surroundings or the shop, this fella is a perfectionist. $175 all the way around and all the guarantees apply. I look forward too a week's time when the tint has settled in.

Re: Tinted Windows

I don't think the surroundings are bad. It's actually a great location (and very expensive). Very close to 294 and just 10 minutes from 53 (if you're doing 355 -> 53). It's an industrial zone, which is mostly car places. Right down the little strip there is this classic car place that had about half a dozen out when I was there, was like a mini-car show. There's also a place across the street with quite a few very nice corvettes out front (at least when I was there).

I'm so glad that we have a guy out in the suburbs who does great work at a awesome price. Has anyone else gone to this guy whose been refered by this thread?

Re: Tinted Windows

Just a followup to my tinting experience at tint works. We had the windows done and a clear bra put on. We are not happy with the clear bra as the material on the mirrors is now falling off, the chin spoiler wasn't fitted correctly and is trapping sand, and the piece on the hood has dirt trapped under it during the original install.

We have been trying to get the owner to return phone calls since 10/15/04 and as of 11/4 he hasn't. So I don't think he stands behind his work at all.

After this experience I wouldn't recommend his service. I should have known when I saw the condition of the shop. What a mess.

All I can say is it was cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for. too bad.
