I love my G!
I dumped my 2005 Lexus ES 330 last week. Traded that bucket of bolts for a brand spanking new, gorgeous 07 G35 sedan. I never hated a car more than that Lexus.
After 5 days I can say I LOVE my G! It's sleek, beautiful, and powerful. I thought I wanted Blue Slate but when I saw the Platinum Graphite I fell in love. The car shimmers with irridescent grays and violet hues and the color changes with the sun. It reminds me of the sun setting on Sierra peaks (if you're from California you know what I mean...)
I got Premium, Nav, and Performance Tire packages. Bought at Miller Infiniti, Van Nuys, CA right off the lot. At $34,500 I think I got a good deal (about $500 over invoice). I keep pinching myself..is that really MY car? Sidling up to stoplights the car gets plenty of looks.
It's going to take some time to figure out all the gadgets. I already plugged my iPod into the RCA jacks...that might be enough right there but the car comes with a 9 gb Music Box which makes the entire vehicle an iPod on wheels! The Bose Studio on Wheels is the best sound system I've ever heard.
The feeling of pressing my foot down on the accelerator and rocketing to 80 mph is orgasmic. Hell, this car is a freakin' speeding ticket waiting to happen. I'm already working up a good excuse when the CHP pulls me over. Something like, "gee officer, how fast was I going?? Really?? It's not my fault, the car just wants to go fast!!!"
Anyway I stumbled on this web site and figured I'd introduce myself. You already know what a great car this is. I'm looking forward to a long drive after the break in period. I think I'll drive to Vegas. Should take about 2 hours and 4 speeding tickets....

Since you asked what soured me on the Lexus, here goes:
1. The vehicle is grossly underpowered.
2. The "transmission hesitation" problem is REAL and annoying at best, dangerous at worst. Punching the accelerator is not something you do with this car. I gave up on using "D" (Drive) in normal city driving. I learned to use the "drive by wire" mode to "manually" operate the car in 3rd or 4th gear.
3. The center console displays are black LCD. If there is direct sun from behind the displays are IMPOSSIBLE to read. If you wear polarized sunglasses the displays are IMPOSSIBLE to read.
4. The Lexus "Premium Audio" system is mediocre. The volume levels are not consistent between AM and FM, so you have to turn the volume UP to hear AM stations and DOWN to get the same level for FM.
5. Vehicle is billed as "satellite" radio-ready which is bunk. There is a button that reads "AM-SAT". That's it. If you want to add satellite radio it's a $1700 upgrade from Lexus. The upgrade must be installed by a Lexus dealer.
6. The pop out cupholder is poorly positioned. It's too high so when you have a cup in the cupholder, it's difficult to use the gear shift. It's like they designed the car and someone said, "hey, we forgot the cup holder", so they put it there as an afterthought.
7. The center console box has 2 sections. You flip the arm rest up to reach into the deep bin. There is a small bin beneath the arm rest, which is the "lid" of the deep bin. Whatever is in the small bin is going to be jostled whenever you lift the lid to reach into the deep bin.
8. The front wheel drive seemed to oversteer at freeway speeds.
This was an ES330. Maybe the new ES350 model addresses some of these issues, I don't know. I didn't bother to find out. My brother did get a 350 and he seems happy with it.

Yeah the G35 is a wicked ride. With only 500 miles on my Sport 6MT, I can feel the car beginnning to loosen up -- or is it me?
Manual clutch/tranny dynamic is getting smoother--or I am; and even though I'm getting more aggressive, MPGs are starting to creep up. Although I've only broached 4000 rpms a few times inadvertently, I can get a glimpse of what this wicked bad boy can do.
Mmm mm mm . . . my, my, my.
