New '08 owner....long intro.
Hi there, I just got my G35 on 3/20 as a replacement for my '05 BMW 530i Sport.
The BMW and Infiniti Dealerships were right next door to each other. I have been an European car driver for quite some time now because the Euro cars, big or small, seems to be more stable when driving on the road.
Unfortunately, the past couple of years personal hardship came and severely limited my monetary cash flow...and the 530i I was never "that" fond of needed to return at the end of April. I was at a loss, because I knew I wasn't that willing to plunk down a huge payment (sort of speak)....
I stopped by the BMW dealer at night time contemplating if I should "settle" for a 3 series (BMW gave 3 series to drive when your car is under service...alot). The 3s were "ok"...not as smooth. While looking at the very large price variations ranging from $38,000-$62,000 for a high end convertible. A replacement 5 series that is the 528i was at 49,000-56,000. And the slightly more powerful 535i...the sedan I personally would choose "if" I was to choose......59,000-64,000.
I generally Lease cars as it creates a good write off and when I got my 530i, I felt I had a great deal.....$1400 drive off...$740/month for 12k/yr/36months. That worked out to a very good lease factor and residual (something of 180 factor and 65%) I knew the new car would throw my payments waaay north of $800...and more because I don't want to have a 3 year lease anymore. I was sad.....hands in my pocket, shoulder shrugged, dragging my feet...I proceeded to walk over to the "lesser" Infiniti Dealership right next door.
Of all the vehicles I have to walk by first was the QX56...OMG..that is one UGLY UGLY UGLY vehicle...pass....then a row of MSedans....eh..not really moving me. Then the FX and EX line...great..one looks like a Shoe and the other seems like a goose head or an egg that's deformed. I was about to give up, as I was ready to just turn back and get into my car...until just a few steps forward (remember my head was down on the ground because I was depressed, so I wasn't looking much) was the G37 coupe...Whoa! it LOOKS nice!!! and next to it the G35S..hey! decently nice looking and more practicle!! Then I looked at the sticker...WHAT?!?!? $39k??? with All that Stuff??? and 306hp???!?!? Limited Slip?!?!?
The next week, I went to the that dealer and after an impressive test drive and amazed at the features...I took posession of a Black on Black G35S with paddleshifter, Premium, Nav, cargo net, fender guards, nicer mat. I drove out paying only $500. And my lease came to $532/month there after with 15k/year for 24 months.
Needless to say, I'm darn happy...with gas prices going so high..the extra $200/month less than my 530i payment can go to a couple gallons of gas.
I'm not sure if I got a good deal..though I'm happy with the car with waay more features and speed with a consequence of a smaller trunk and interior.
I still got a month left on the 530i and has quite a few miles left before the 36k..so I'll be driving the 530i for now till I turn it in...perhaps say "goodbye" to her...I've diven the G35S for a total of 5 times and racked up a whopping 162 miles....my biggest challenge for the G35S is the music menu and computer gizmos...I'm not that great with fancy cell phones, computers, yet I try....I'll be posting primarly "how do I" post as a heads up.
Ciao for now!!

Thanks All...Well here is an update...I now have over 600 miles...this is after my very first G meeting toda with an amazing turn out!!! The G-owners are AWESOME!!! I've never seen such a unity of Fanatics EVER! There was a very big caravan drive through the Santa Cruz Mt.s and ate with a bunch of swell folks.
Now I have some miles under the belt, I have to report that the car is pretty darn amazing and performs very well. I seem to be able to hang with the First Gen G35 coupes through the twisties and acceleration was great. The paddle shifters was a concern for me at first because I never thought shifting with paddles was necessary..well, it became a joy. I left it on Sport mode, put the gear at 3 and the car just did everything needed. I've dropped it down to 2 on some tight turns and the rev-matching was real neat. Brakes were not used that much because the gears helped and the handling was very impressive..still need a bit more seat time but pretty decent.
Brisk drive back was enjoyable.
I told others that this is the second Nissan product I've ever owned...and the first one was not impressive at all: Baby Blue early 80's Datsun 210 WAGON...I think the car topped out at like 82 mph.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the car and glad I got it. I'm especially glad that the G-owners are very nice group of people too!

Congrats on the purchase.
Its always nice when a BMW owner compliments the G35, especially considering that BMW makes some of the funnest cars I've ever driven.
I shall patiently wait until I have the means to comfortably afford a new M3, at least while I wait I've got the G (I'm only 23 so I can't get too far ahead of myself).
