License and transfer fees

In addition to the $13900 asking price and sales tax, the dealer wants me to pay $425 worth of "license and transfer fees". I smell a dead inflated rat, am I correct?

Looking at a 05 5AT sedan with 42k miles.

I paid 250 for the same fees and I bought the car in va and shipped it to wa, so I'd say it's prob a little bit high...

It really depends on where you live though.. different states have different tax laws.. I.E. I live in california, 425 would be considered a steal! LOL
my question : what was the original price? and what did you negotiate it down to?

That is the sticker price - dealer is known to be "haggle free". After many extensive carscom, autotradercom and craigslist searches, it represents the best value in the region (besides the 05 6MT premium/sport 23K for for $15.3) .Wheres my "killa deal bro!" comments.

So I'm not concerned about their price, only junk fees tacked on. Looking at the classified section on this forum, it appears that the average asking price for G35's has dropped about 5 grand in the past 6 months.

Unless you're going to get the car yourself, that's about right for a transfer fee. Lic. fees depends on where you are. I'm assuming you're using carmax. They're the only "no haggle dealer" with "transfer fees" that I know of. You can always just go pick up and register it yourself. That way you know there's no inflated cost. Seems like a big hassle over $425 considering what the car cost, but it's your car.

Nice deal! screw it, just pay the 425 ! when you do the financing, some financial institutions will add the 425 to the loan for you.. see if you can do it like that. When I bought my G, I financed through Chase and they covered my lic and xfer fees into the loan don't know how it's going to be now considering banks are really stingy and not that eager to be lending.

Given that most banks will do a 120%+ loan to value, unless that G35 has no motor, he shoudl be good for that extra $425. You never HAVE to put money down on a car loan unless your credit is doo-doo flakes. If you're 680+ you can sail through life never giving anyone anything at a time of deal. And banks aren't stingy. they're just more cautious.

To be honest with you I dont think anybody on this forum is too happy that G's are getting cheaper and cheaper. This means that our resale value has gone to the sh**. I personally paid 25k for mine and I think it was worth every penny. Now that people can get the car cheaper it means they are going to cheaply mod the cars and possibly give a bad name to the car itself. But what are you gonna do.

A car's retail price has nothing to do with how much aftermarket parts cost. The G is an expensive car to mod. Period. Sure, more people will be able to afford them, but I don't think the rice mods will increase because of it. You might see a few more "DIY" mods once those who buy the car realize that they can't afford to do anything significant to it. But, I doubt it'll be noticable outside of the G community.

Speaking of aftermarket parts, when will someone make a subtle and tasteful boby kit for the 05/06 similar to the Aero/nismo on the 03/04? You would think a company could seel a bunch of those if the look and fitment was right. And yes, I saw whats available now.
