Soon to be new owner...
Hey guys,
Hope this is the right spot for this post. So I'm currently looking at an '05 6MT Sedan. It has about 40k miles on it and I'm taking it in to a mechanic to have it looked over tomorrow. Is there anything specifically that I should have him look at? I read about the issues about oil consumption. Anyway to checked if it has or had that problem?
Thanks,
Sy

Great choice Sy!
I personally haven't had any problems w/ my Baby G. I have been religiously checking my oil consumption and it's been good, so far. I have an '05 Sports pkg AT, fully loaded, but I'm completely stock.
The Infiniti series is your best bang for your buck for an entry level luxury car. The handling is great. I'm sure someone will chime regarding what to look for in the used car.

My mistake, my room mate came in with a story to tell so I cut my post short.
Things to ask your mechanic:
There is the oil consumption issue that Swivelhips mentioned, but other than that, I can't think of anything horrific. There are a few scattered stories of people who have had bad transmissions.
The one thing that you should have your mechanic look for (but Infiniti is usually good about taking care of) is oil pooling on the valve covers.
I have an AT, so someone else will have to back me up on this, but I've heard that the synchro's in the MT's can be weak. Be sure to do a thorough test drive, and spend plenty of time shifting.
One small thing, from what I've seen, usually cars that have been driven hard will have some sort of carbon build up at the end of the exhaust pipes.
Things to take a second look at...
Personally, I've had a number of squeaks and rattles, as have many others.
As for points to go over (that your mechanic probably wont spend much time with)
My car had a seat switch break (and they're EXPENSIVE if you're out of warranty; they replace the bottom half of the seat to fix), so play around with the seats.
Check the speakers for any hissing.
If you have a nav, check the control panel to make sure everything works as it should (the joystick).
Things you might want to know (and can possibly use as negotiation points):
Paint chips (common)
Tears in leather (not as common, but it happens)
Final things that you might want to know:
If you want to mod your car, perhaps the single best mod you can do for the REV-UP motor (the one that comes with a MT), is the MREV2. For whatever reason, Infiniti dropped the ball on designing the lower collector. You should make considerably more power after that.
PM me if you'd like to know anything else, and I'll see if I can be of service.

Truthfully, you can probably drop it a bit lower. Car market sucks, and that a MT. Its rare, but also happens to sit on dealer lots a lot. Most MT owners go get coupes.
I would make a 14,250 and see where that takes me. Get them to meet you at 15.
