New owner here frpm PA with an '07 G35X
Hello all. My name is Paul and I've been lurking here and searching like crazy for the past week. My wife and I were looking to replace our leased 2007 Ford Edge SEL+. We wanted to move away from an SUV and get an AWD sedan. We drove a MB C280 4MATIC among other things and nothing did it for us like the G. I had put money down on an '06 with 18K miles on it last Friday, and then I saw an '09 next to it. I told the salesman that I would be back in on Monday to sign the paper work but that I was going to take the weekend to look for an '07 as I just loved the exterior, and even more-so the interior of the '07. As luck would have it I found a few. We went to the dealer and drove a M35x first, and although it was larger, it just didn't do it for us plus when I saw highway MPG in it hovering around the 16-17mpg mark I knew this wasn't for me. Then we drove an '07 G35x and immediately knew it was the car for us. Its a black on black '07. It doesn't have navi or the bose sound system, but those are two items that I had no interest in as I already have a GPS and the stereo was fine for what I want in a family sedan.
I absolutely LOVE this car already. I'm a car nut and every vehicle I own has a high fun to drive factor other than the "family grocery getter" so I figured it was time to move away from an SUV and into an AWD sedan that was as much fun to drive as the utility it provided when hauling the family around. I have a '95 mustang GT that I drag race, a '94 cobra that I autocross, a SVT focus that is my daily driver and my previous autocross car, and my wife has an Mr2 Spyder. So as you can see it was a bit of a disappointment when I got behind the wheel of our >2 ton Ford Edge. Don't get me wrong, it was honestly a great vehicle for what it was but lacked in the fun to drive department.
I don't plan to do anything to it other than get a set of summer wheels for it, have the window's tinted, and get a better IPOD hookup in the car.
I've read the lengthy gas mileage threads on here and I admit I wasn't thrilled by what I had read, however on Sunday I took the G on a 140 mile round trip from my home to a town near Pittsburgh. The route I take is one mountain after another and most of it was under construction making for a "speed up, then brake" kind of drive and yet I still managed 25.8mpg which I verified via actual gallons used, not the display. I used the MPG displays though to try and maximize the mileage by seeing what the car liked and didn't like in terms of throttle input. Overall though this same trip would result in at best 18mpg in my Edge so to say I'm happy is an understatement.
Here's a few pictures I grabbed on the above said trip.
