New G owner in Virginia

Good day to my fellow G35 owners. I recently set out to replace my 276k mile Honda civic and found myself the proud owner of a 2005 G35 6MT. I found a laser red G with 56k miles, loaded with navigation, Brembo brakes and all sorts of other **** I don’t think I will ever need...like a tape deck. The car is un-modified with the exception of an Injen cold air intake which I may replace with the OEM. Due to an obvious lack of knowledge during the install the mounting bracket had broken and the side of the intake was rubbing on the interior of the bay and was making a awful squeaking noise every time I hit a bump. Outside of that, I too have an Inop 3rd brake light, which must be made of gold considering the amount the dealer quoted to fix it. I live in the Hampton roads area of Virginia and I work as an electrical engineer designing weapon systems on The Virginia class submarine program for the US Navy. I used to be really big into modifying cars (renegade swap on a 944, Turbo charged Prelude and I had a really fast 69 mercury cougar with a 351 Windsor that was supercharged back in my youth....however, none of them were as nice or as comfortable as this G35. I look forward to possibly performing some modifications to increase the handling and overall performance of the car down the road and I am sure that some of your opinions and insight will prove valuable moving forward. If you have questions or would just like to offer your ideas, stories or tips please do not hesitate to let me know. I will post some pictures when I have the time.

Welcome to the forums! You'll find a lot of resources here. Since you're in the DMV area I will mention the National G Club, which is the area's largest group of G enthusiasts in the DMV. Look at some of the meets and events that they have coming up and be sure to check them out!
