depends on what you want. coilovers are nice if u want a drop. otherwise tokico shocks are almost stock in feel and height.

KYB excel (sport model) up front and Monroe OEspectrum (sport model) for the rear. The rears come with new mounts, be sure to buy new mounts for the front. Everything should come to about $289 on rockauto.com

I'd like to buy adjustable but I'm concerned that the ride won't be as smooth if I go that route. I'm looking to spend around 1k if that helps

Why? Are you lowered? Do you plan on lowering? If not, you're just wasting money.

But, if you are, the bilsteins are nice. So are the koni yellows.

I planned on lowering it but not to the point where I can't get into a driveway

Then I'd say there's no point in adjustable. Just wasted money. Your X has the highest suspension of this platform, so if you lowered it an inch and a half for instance, you could just buy shocks for a coupe, or 2" you could buy shocks for the Z.

Depending on how low you're going.
