New G35 Owner

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself as a new G owner. I picked up this bone-stock '06 6MT G35 in WV2 last weekend in order to serve as my DD. While I'm no stranger to the VQ engine, this will be my first G. I used to have a '91 Infiniti M30 convertible and a bullet-proof '00 Maxima. The wife has a '10 M35x and my "fair-weather car" is an '05 350z roadster.

A few things in the queue right now include a good cleaning and detailing followed by some new fluids in the tranny and rear diff. There is a noticeable clunk from the rear when shifting hard which I believe to be the rear diff bushing. No noise when driving conservatively. I'll probably replace it with the Whiteline kit. Also, the clutch pedal resistance feels strange and the catch point is off so I'll be replacing the MC with the Wilwood kit from ZSpeed and go with a SS line and some fresh fluid. With just over 100K on the clock, the suspension will need some freshening up with some Bilstein B6's.

Other than that, I'm going to enjoy her for as long as I can. Thanks for having me.

Stock g35s look so good, with the rays wheels of course. Take care of your G and it should take care of you. If your dash is still in good condition, get a quality sun shade. They are known to crack like crazy. Covercraft makes a nice one that is custom fit. So perfect that the pillars hold it up without the sun visors

1-year Anniversary

In 2 days it will be one year since I picked up my G. I still love driving it as my DD and I've done a few things since I picked her up. Most of the issues from the previous owner have been sorted out including the "clunk noise" with hard shifts (rear differential bushing), the "squeaking" from the driver's side front suspension (control arm bushings), and the "roaring" noise from the rear on the highway (wheel bearings). Pics where I could find them...

10/15/17 – Installed ZSpeed Wilwood HD Master Cylinder and stainless braided clutch line

10/24/17 – Dual USB port with voltage meter in lighter outlet

10/27/17 – Hardwired ValentineOne radar detector mount; Zspeed aluminum undertray; new engine belts

11/12/17 – Rear differential fluid change; Manual transmission fluid change; Whiteline rear differential bushings

11/17/17 – 380RS pedal

12/1/17 – Amsoil 5W-30 Oil/Filter Change

12/3/17 – (INTERIOR REFRESH) JDM double din trim and Kenwood DNX574S Nav Head Unit; added 10” JL10W0V3-4 subwoofer in sealed box in trunk; Tommy Kaira Hebi Bebi shift ****; Redline Goods black leather with orange stitching shift boot, e-brake boot, and arm rest; Nardi aluminum/black leather parking brake handle

12/23/17 – New in-cabin air filter. It looks like the old one was formerly a mouse hideout.

1/6/18 – VLEDs V6 Triton Switchback DRL/turn install; interior LEDs from Diode Dynamics

3/20/18 – Took the Invidia Gemini out of the Z and put in the G. Had a local muffler shop weld in some short extensions for it to fit.

4/8/18 – Made some front bumper ducts for the sport bumper out of carbon fiber and blacked out the front grill except for Mt. Fuji.

8/27/18 – (SUSPENSION/BRAKE REFRESH) Bilstein B6 HD struts; Tein H Tech Springs; rebuilt Brembo calipers purchased locally from CL, stainless braided lines, pads, EBC slotted rotors; rear wheel bearings; solid Energy Suspension bushings for the front suspension/control arms (this was the most fun weekend of all!)

9/1/18 – JWT pop charger with heat shield; new floor mats

Most current pic:

Up next:

Spark plugs (likely valve covers as well)

Quad projector headlight retrofit

Clutch, lightweight flywheel, TO bearing, Slave cylinder

Wow I like it I like it. Very well kept. I'd highly recommend some clear corner lights for the front that amber reflector looks lame .

I also really enjoyed the bushing swap, it was kinda satisfying and now I know future bushing swaps will be easier.

Thanks man. I was thinking about getting some clears for the front when I do my headlight upgrades. I imagine they'll give me crap when I get it inspected, but I'll just keep the ambers to swap them out before I take it in since it literally takes about 30 seconds per side.

Coupe, Premium package, sport suspension
As long as the bulb is amber, it shouldn't be a problem. It just needs to be amber color at night when the lights are on. I'm in Raleigh too and I haven't had any inspection issues in the 5+ years I've had clear corners (four years on the sedan, 1.5 on the coupe).

Protip; the lights only need to be the correct color and working if they're installed. When I got my G inspected the bulbs were blown and they wouldn't pass me until I literally look the side marker lights out, and then it was fine xD

Since then I've put in LEDs and blacked out the corners. The Ebay clear corners leak water like crazy, and I did my best to reseal them. Oh well, you can't see it under the black tint.

Good to know. Thanks, guys. I guess I'll be on the lookout for some clears with "no bump."

I was able to seal my ebay corners with a universal oring kit from my local parts store, haven't had an issue since.

Nice carbon fiber fabrication work! How many layers did you lay down?

Thanks! I think I laid 2 layers over fiberglass CSM for reinforcement. I smoothed out the fiberglass with some filler and sanded it down.

Found some pics of the project. For being one of my first attempts at CF, I think they came out pretty nice.
