Hi. I wanted to pick up a safe 4wd for my fiance, in the price range $2500-3000.
it just so happened that I found a 195k mile 2006 g35x and paid $1900 all said and done.
So far: replaced front upper ball joints/arms and front struts. Bad driver strut put excessive wear on the ball joint and sway link bushing. Cleaned MAF and replaced all spark plugs. They looked leaned out and melted.
To do:
. Figure out intermittent manual mode not working.
. Repair fuel gauge motor/circuitry.
. Repair points of body rust and smooth out dents.
Where's the rust on it? I ask because I have rust holes on both rockers and some pretty bad wheel well rust I need to get to soon. What's your plan of attack?
So if it's structural you will need a stick welder, some good penetration sticks, and appropriate gauge steel cut to overlap about an inch if you don't cut off the rust. Otherwise cut to size if you will be cutting off rust.
my rust is cosmetic so, of course, I'm going to sand and primer, then body filler putty. Generic bondo putty at home depot works, don't forget the hardener.
Looks like she has lived in the northern states from the rust areas. The 04 I just bought was from PA half of it's life and it shows in the wheel wells.
Yeah, mine's rusted exactly where yours is JY except mine hasn't spread up where you can see it above the side skirt - but there's a hole hidden beneath the skirt. If you haven't taken off the skirt yet, I'd bet you've got one there too.
I mean, this spot is "structural" but it's not like the car is flexing or anything from a little hole. I'm just going to remove every speck of rust, blast it with rustoleum, use body glue and seam sealer to put on a patch panel, blast it again, and call it good.
