My name is Taz and I've been a long time reader on Driver and have finally decided to open up an account! I purchased my very own 04 coupe about 4 months back in great condition with 89k miles, currently has a magnaflow exhuast (previous owner installed it), and I just put in my ztube and am hoping to install my plenum spacer sometime within the next month. My rotors and pads seem to be like they are on their way out, would greatly appreciate some advice on bbk choices. My eyes are currently on the r1 concepts eLINE series kit with ceramic pads. I've read the reviews on this site and 6mt and they seem to be like a good bang for the buck, please let me know any advice/criticism you all may have! Glad to be a part of the community!!!

I've never used them but I haven't read anything bad about them from folks using those rotors. I think the e-line is an OEM size replacement though and not a BBK. I do strongly recommend you decide EXACTLY what kind of brake pads you want and how much comfort you're willing to sacrifice for performance. An OEM style pad will generate little dust, little noise, have a long life and provide decent cold and hot stopping power but WILL fade from extended use. A track pad will be VERY dirty, VERY noisy, have a short life, terrible cold performance but will experience excellent and consistent grip and no brake fade from extended use. There's a lot of little steps in between those two extremes.

You should also look closely at CENTRIC brand, posi-quiet is a good OEM style and their rotors have great reviews. Stoptech is their more performance minded brand.

Personally I use Hawk HP+ but I wash my car every week, they're a little dirty, a little noisy, cold bite is a little weaker but they are AMAZING street pads when up to temp, I have a lot of long hills and sometimes have to ride my brakes for 1/4 mile intervals and these pads are perfect for ME. You need to decide exactly what pads you need for YOUR driving conditions.

Also just a tip, if you EVER take your car out for a track day I VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND you have a second set of pads that are for track use only. I keep a set of Hawk DTC60 pads in the shop for the ultra rare occasion that my car goes to the track. If you've ever had your *** pucker up going into a corner with brake fade you'll understand exactly why you switch pads out for track days.

 

I dont mind the dirt as i've been hand washing my car every other week or so, but the main issue i've had with my oem pads is the brake squeal, especially on a cold bite. I know this is also due to the fact that they need to be replaced, but I dont want to deal with constant noise from day to day so i'll definitely do more research. also thanks for the tip of extra performance pads, I don't plan to take my car to the track any time soon but when the day comes, i'll pick up on ur advice.

OP great pick up! I always say take car of your baby and she'll take care of you. R1 is a great choice for brake pads and rotors, I'm one of their biggest fans on Driver. I use them on all of our cars and have for years, they use Centric blanks and machine rotors to order and for the price and service I believe they can't be beat anywhere on the internet. They do have an ebay store so when you decide what rotors/pads you're going to get check the store there. A lot of times you'll find parts there cheaper than their website pricing. Welcome to our little dysfunctional family and enjoy your stay as long as you stick around.
