2008 G35SX Las Vegas
Hello from Las Vegas,
Brand new to Infiniti’s and wanted to get into the community for some knowledge and help for when some of the inevitables come up. Coming from an e36 bmw I’ve had for close to 10 years, I found those forums very helpful for keeping her on the road!
I was ready for something new and was pretty convinced I would be getting another BMW, but after searching for about 5-6 months I ended up pulling the trigger on a black 2008 G35XS with 90k miles yesterday morning and love it! Premium and tech package, I’ll try and get some pictures up later if you guys want!
I am pretty familiar with the quirks on bmws, but being new to the Infiniti scene I’m curious what some of the common bugaboos and things to look out for would be?
In the last 10k miles the belts have been replaced, brake and power steering fluids flushed, cabin micro filters and engine air filters all changed. There were no records for spark plugs so I’m assuming those will be next. Anything else you guys would recommend?
I saw a thread mentioning a way to bring up a diagnostic on my screen (hold the back and the up button for 5 seconds), tried playing around with that for a few minutes but I must have been doing something wrong. Could someone point me in the direction of a more detailed link possibly?
Anyway, thanks in advance for the info and knowledge, I hope to return the favor when I’m a little more knowledgeable!
One last thing, anyone local and could recommend a good shop in case something comes up that I am not comfortable turning the wrench?
Thanks!

Nice, I would love to find one with that kind of mileage! One question, why a X in nevada??
Plugs are usually good for 100k+ but it doesn't hurt to freshen it up early. I would check the front driveshaft U joints every oil change. When the front driveshaft goes it takes the front diff, engine oil pan, trans lines out too. The only other thing I can think that we have seen past 150k miles is a water pump and thermostat. Beyond that it's just consumables like brakes, tires, and fluid changes.

Haha that is a fair question, but we actually have a fairly decent mountain to ski about 45 minutes out of Las Vegas. It is called Lee Canyon and I normally take several other trips during the year to either Utah or Tahoe and I thought it would be a good option because those roads can get pretty hairy.
I definitely wasn’t looking specifically for an X, but I have always kinda wanted an AWD in the back of my head, not exactly sure why. Also, after I checked this car out it was so damn sexy I had to have it
That’s great to hear about the water pump and therm, those are 2 things that are notorious at around 80-100k on BMWs.. like EVERY-SINGLE-ONE lol. Also gaskets under the hood are common to go bad around that age. Any leaky areas that seem to be common that I should keep an eye on?

So far I have only found that the valve covers and the oil cooler (what the oil filter screws onto) has an o-ring that leak. That's about all I have found on the 4x G35's I work on.
