Alternator wiring issue
Alternator wiring issue
Hey Guys, I need a little help here. My son blew up his engine in his 2005 G35 coupe and he bought another engine from Japan with under 60k miles on it. Everything was going together fine until I went to plug in the alternator. The original wiring harness has a two wire plug - the alternator has a three wire plug. What do I do?

The engine must be from a newer model that has the variable charging system. The "extra" wire comes from the IPDM (based on a signal from the ECM). Can you just swap the alternator from the blown engine?
Don't use ANY of the accessories from the donor motor, those things sit outside for months and usually get damaged from weather.
Keep all your existing accessories like alternator, etc. Keep your existing fuel injectors and rail, all electrical sensor, intake plenum, throttle body, headers, O2 sensors, etc.
Basically you are swapping ONLY the long block. The intake gaskets are reusable metal, same with the exhaust gaskets.
You have no clue what condition all those other sensors are in, injectors are probably clogged from sitting, it usually makes startup and troubleshooting a total pain when you're throwing all those extra variables into the mix. You know all the existing stuff worked so use it instead.
